Today we landed in Cadiz. Again we had no plans so we walked out of the ship and ran into a taxicab/guide- who didn't speak English- but his Spanish was understandable by both of us so we took a little tour. Do you know me? First thing we see while driving around the city - we get to a demonstration. All the TV warnings are keep away from public gatherings etc and of course i want to find out what the demonstration is about - so outbid the cab info. Turns out it was to against violence against women and that everyone should have a home - a place to live. And the demonstrators were all college age. And there were two separate demonstrations in the city that we saw! We next went to the Cathedral and it was lovely inside- but my phone didn't have the capability to capture it with the available lighting. Next we were given a lesson on how buildings are constructed in Cadiz - they use a sand with shells, and mix it with cement. The walls are very thick, and in summer it is cool inside and in winter it is warm inside. We went to the beach - and Diego, our driver, told us that Havana Cuba was modeled on Cadiz - and the stretch of beachfront looked just like the malecón. Also he told us that James Bond 007 was filmed there to represent Cuba. And Joey said he could see it (he's better than I at that..) We then went to the main mercado/market. It was amazing - fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, booths of olives - I wanted to buy out the place- but no place to cook... We drove around and saw a few more things then went back to the ship - manicure for me and a beard trim for Joey. Then, dinner! A Short educational on Agam the Israeli artist was our post dinner choice of activities, and a show on the main stage - then back to the cabin to write the blog.
