Short notes: Once again we hired a guide to Seville, 1million population. Old silver and gold now tourists. A Spanish galleon was found near cartegena 3 months ago. No flamenco on a Tuesday- only weekends.. 73 degrees today. Our driver wasn't really a guide so he threw out information randomly without a photo op to go with it. Monastery la cartujanos and 400 years old - a working monastery with praying monks ! The plains have every thing - horses, Bulls, wine, oil; Rolling hills and crops. We passed a city called las cabezas also known as the ugly city. Wheat sugar corn sunflower beef..all come from this area. We passed a city called dos hermanas and were told that the two brothers from that city created the song Macarena. And that they have swelled heads, according to our guide. But we didn't stop for a photo. I noticed different colors of dirt - light dirt good for grapes, red dirt for carrots. Spanish language has many Arab words ... We went to the most amazing place - Plaza de Americas built for the world fair of 1929. After the Plaza we were taken to the beautiful 5 star hotel Alphonse Vlll to use the bathrooms (do all taxi drivers take their guests to 5 star hotels to use the facilities??) and the decorations again were wonderful. There was an amazing gift shop with 1st and 2nd century busts and other gorgeous things Joey had to pull me away from.. Can you see a male nude statue in our living room? Then onto Alcazar. It is the largest garden in Spain and we couldn't spend as much time as we would like but we must return. I found myself taking photos of ceilings and tile work! And they have no problem mixing patterns ... : ) The nearby cathedral looked interesting and of course was beautiful, but time in the lovely city of Seville was short. So we decided to try a local tapas bar. The food was excellent- and inexpensive- so we bought a bottle of wine,a Rioja, to take back to the ship for dinner. We wandered the streets of the Jewish quarter a bit, found a fragrant tea shop, and ran into a fellow cruiser from Phoenix who found Jewish decorations. Back in the taxi we passed the bullring of Seville and then headed back to the ship for - wait - team trivia (we lost by one point) (if you were given the question: what is 'horse' in Latin, would you say 'Equus' or ' equinus' ? We said Equus which was correct but the moderator gave the other group a point for equinus...). Anyway, off to dinner with our bottle of Rioja!!
