The Daily Ju
looks like rach has been a bit better at keeping up with our euro-adventure than i have. a lot of that probably has to do with her hogging the internet...even our swedish friends were laughing at her and tried to scare her and tell her there was no internet in barcelona. we had a good running joke at rach's expense ;) they just kept saying to her in a thick swedish accent "rachel loooooves the internet"
i had a wonderful time in sweden, which is a good thing because we'll be back next week when we meet up with our two friends in stockholm. now for the update of "what julie ate this week". yes dear readers, my "trying new things is my new thing" continues as i ate multiple things this week that i cannot spell or even pronounce...one was smorgastorta or something like that and another one with an english translation of "body cakes"...yes...body cakes...and today at the airport i had goulosh. i keep telling rachel to eat as much as possible because we never know when we'll eat again
we stayed in the swedish city of Kalmar with one of our friends. he was a great host, took us around to a couple castles and to the island öland (which we love because öl means beer so we pretend we went to beer-land) we had a great time going out except we hated that beers were roughly 7-9 dollars (sigh, the old days at michigan state when there was 3 dollar pitchers of labatt blue light....) and we saw a band that i can't pronounce that is translated "fight club"...this would be if the creator of the super mario brothers theme song went off into a professional music career because it's all electronic "da da da doo doo dee doo da..." with no words....
but by far the best part of my trip to sweden was that our host Linus (pronounced lee-nus) had rented us two huge yellow bikes for the week. now we were very apprehensive of riding bikes, rachel even told Linus she "forgot how"...we had a little basket up front that held our purses and we even rode them to and from the bar. a couple times we had to jump on the back and were escorted home by our friends (pictures soon to follow). i'm laughing now thinking about it, but rachel BAILED HARD on her bike yesterday and i wanted to start laughing but it looked like it hurt, and the first thing we did when she got up was make sure no one saw us (we're trying to fit in). the best part about it was that she wasn't even riding the bike, she was just walking next to it hahaha
next stop: an unnecessary trip to barcelona and then an even more unnecessary trip back to stockholm by train. we could have planned this better but this is what happens when you "live for the second"
we also have tenatively called our trip "the local tour 2007" because we're staying with locals for the majority of our trip and getting the "local experience"
time to go catch my flight!
