Hello hello from PADOVA!!!!! Well the morning started off good. We were still in Florence in our five star hotel where mom flew out at 7 30 am and left around 545 ish. Ju and I had a good sleep in the king size bed… got up around noon and walked around the city for an hour or so before leaving. (had to pick up a scarf for april…) we also stocked up on food. Got some meat, buns, cheese, croissants and a choc muffin for a snack! So we were well prepared. We were in no rush so we ended up missing the first train we planned on taking to Padova. We booked our train at the station and then sat on a bench at the platform where the train was supposed to come in. settling into our nice meal of buns and meat an old grizzly looking man approached us where he tried to get a bun from us. I replied with "I DON'T speak that" and Julie… sour for some reason because I think she was so happy to eat said "NO." it was a seedy bunch at the train station. We also had the old man with the umbrella in one hand holding an alarm clock behind his back with the other, that would randomly yell stuff and poke around. I was hoping he wouldn't try to get a bun either. Well we caught the later one and arrived around 6 ish. Now, Paldova is where the Basillica of Saint Anthony is which is why we planned on coming here! He is the patron saint of lost things so obviously I am ALWAYS praying to him and so is the rest of my family. So we arrived in time for the st anth museum to close so we decided to stay the night in Padova. This is where ju comes in….. (grrr) the night before I had looked up decent hotels at a good price in Venice in case we made it there and in padova….. now by NOT booking anything ju is pumped to "wing it" like "real backpackers." First of all she wanted to stay by a hotel close to the train station… this is where I see 'hotel monaco' (ok… NO) with the fluorescent red lights. So on our pilgrammage to padova…. It's a pilgrammage if you are going to a city where a saint is from to see his church…. We have no place to stay, walk by a tourist office and see a pamphlet that just so happens to say HOTELS IN PADOVA! I was mini pleased…still knowing I could have booked us a three star hotel at a good price but nonetheless was thinking thaaank you saint Anthony. I mean what city have you ever been in could be more obvious with a hotel pamphlet. So we page through the pamphlet (finding out hotel shady Monaco was actually three stars…I don't know who rated that one!) and we talked with the tourist lady if she knew of a decent priced hotel. Flipping to the page of one star hotels she picks out 'hotel dante' for us to stay in! she called ahead and they held the room! Still sour at Julie… knowing I would have paid the same amount for my three star hotel online we start our fifteen min walk to hotel dante hahaha. Oh SHADIEST STREET EEEEVER! Its dark. Julie would not go in at first because she was unsure of the place, until we saw a car coming we both booked it into the hotel. Now I don't know why the tourist lady had to call ahead to 'save' our hotel for us because first of all I don't know WHO would find this place or let alone pick it to stay at when it is 7 pm at night. I decided that the tourist lady was laughing herself the whole way home tonight….. she tricked the two idiot girls with two little red suitcases
So we decided to stay here….the key to our room… actually three keys one for the front door, another for the second front door and one to our room and real keys. But now I feel like I am on a real pilgrammage. This might as well be a convent. To lock our door we have to use the key from the inside to actually lock it…so if we lose the key we are stuck here. We have also just come to the recent discovery that in our hotel there are only 7 rooms… lucky for us she reserved this room
I also made ju eat three buns for supper… we cant afford letting food go to waste. Now we might have an early night with sleeping pills so we can wake up fresh tomorrow to visit saint anth!!!!!! Yihoooo
If you look in videos you will also see our virtual tour of our padova room haha.
Well talk soon!
Love us
Ps…. Julie also informed me as we were walking here that we BOTH had learned a very important lesson in booking stuff ahead of time…. I disagree. I found places. So don't rope me into learning lessons with you….
