Real quick, i have added 3 new blogs apart from this note, 1 from spain (a must read, entitled "things get s***ty in spain") and 2 from stockholm
NOW: Helsinki, Finland -
just a quick note as we're in the train station, waiting for our train to Lappeenranta to see our good friend Alex Nikifourik...
So many of you are unaware of the last time rach and i just came to Helsinki, it was what you may call "boring julie". in fact, this whole trip was almost called "redemption tour 07" because i was soooo boring that rachel never wanted to go back to helsinki. for 10 days, i could not adjust, and slept all night, woke up in the evning to see hockey games, wrote my boyfriend at the time (pat) on the internet, then i would go to bed. rach hung out with dad and the scouts pretty much for 10 days...i was so bad that even my dad has made joke after joke this week about finland ("oh hey ju! going to finland tomorrow? oh yeah, you'll get lots of sleep there" and also "going on the ferry to helsinki? that's a really party fest! but for you it'll probably be a sleep fest eh??")
rachel says that this is do-or-die for helsinki, because if i can't pull it together, she will NEVER return to helsinki or finland again...
but i think i did well last night as me, rach, lauren, and casey checked in to our room on the boat. we actually had two seperate rooms, but casey and lauren had no other girls in their room so we moved our stuff in to there. we hung out, had some of our Dansk vodka that we purchased in Norway at duty free (this stuff i like moonshine!), went for supper, had a three hour nap, and forced ourselves to get up and go out...
we met some great guys that actually had come to our room earlier to borrow three cups. we told them we were going to have a quick nap before we go out and the guy said "oh yeah, us too!" and casey shut the door and said, i don't know how they do it here, but in america "having a nap" does not include drinking vodka out of little cups...
they were great, we hung out for a few drinks at the pub, then they took us to the teenagers bar - which i SWEAR the drinking age is 18, but these kids looked wasted and 13 years old. i told rach that dad would hate this boat because there is no discipline on board. you can walk anywhere holding a beer, so after the bar closed about 3/4 ish, we went back to the hallway and drank beer sprawled out in the hallway with our new friends, who are from estonia, but they made us laugh because their english was so broken. one kept saying, in english "i only know how to speak Estonian" but then laughed and said he was kidding. one guy decided his favourite adjective was "s***head" and we asked him if he liked russia, and he said "they are a bunch of s***heads"...later on that night, i asked if he knew what a mullet was, and he said "yeah, they are a bunch of s***heads". so we sprawled out on the floor for the last little bit, eating vending machine food and drinking estonian beer, and then called it quits, because we had to get off the boat in a good 5 hours.
but all in all, dear readers, i believe i have fully redeemed mysself
