No trip to Paris is complete without visiting the Eiffel Tower! So after the Louvre we went to the market to buy some water and sandwiches for dinner to eat at the hotel. Sandy wanted to dress up in a suit to go to the Eiffel Tower, I wondered why and then decided that I couldn't go dressed down if I was going to be walking next to this handsome man. So a dress it was! The day had been beautiful so I didn't think I'd get too cold. We walked for two hours and we walked over one of the many bridges the Seine has separating one bank from another. Turns out Sandy had specifically chosen to cross this bridge because it was a bridge full of locks, yes locks like the ones you use to lock a locker or your luggage. It was crazy the amount of locks that couples had locked and placed their initials, anniversary dates, and/or love sayings. I thought it was just a coincidence, but Sandy had it all planned out and told me that here "we are locking our love." What more could a girl ask for?! "Locked forever and ever for a lifetime." We finally reached the mind blowing tower. I couldn't stop smiling and kept telling Sandy, "We are here! We are here! It's the Eiffel Tower!!" Just like a little girl haha! I was the happiest girl in the world at that time, and nothing more would compare, or so I thought. We got there around 9 and just our luck, one of the lifts was broken making the wait that much longer. We waited and waited. It went from a bearable temperature when the sun was out, to 10 degrees less, and then 10 less, at least that's what it felt like. We were in that line so long that the sun set, we saw the first lights of the tower turn on, then later on more lights, and then we saw the flashing lights the go on periodically at night. We were next in line and I was beyond ecstatic that we were finally going up! We went in the jammed pack elevator and made it all the way to the top. I thought the view from Notre Dame was beautiful, but there was absolutely no comparison. It was night time, the city of lights in full effect. It was freezing up there and it didn't help that I was dressed cute, but not warm. I insisted on staying inside in the covered area, but Sandy said the we must stay outside. Alright, fine I'll just literally freeze, no big deal. I saw him a little sad or upset, I thought it was because we didn't make it on time before the champagne bar closed. He said he was fine; I know him a bit better than that. He wanted to ask someone to take a picture of us and took forever to ask someone. The Tower lights were flashing, it was a perfect moment. A Spanish couple walked by and he asked them to film this special moment because it was the first time I was at the Eiffel Tower. Film? Were we going to talk about how it feels like to be atop the tower? Film? Why not a picture? I'm not very good with words and expressing myself... That's all I could think of and then before I know it he is in front of me, on his knees asking me to marry him. Was this really happening? At the top of the Eiffel tower? Flashing lights going off and all? In my all time dream city? To the man I love? I was so in shock, yes I cried, and for those of you who know me well, know that I a) hate crying, especially in front of people and b) don't cry often. But this was an uncontrollable and "I am so happy and the luckiest girl in the world" kind of cry and no one else around mattered, only Sandy. At first I didn't even answer, I just kissed him and then realized that it isn't an engagement until I agreed to it so after hugging him and never wanting to let go, of course I said yes! So many things were going through my head, but at the same time everything felt just right, as ironic as that can sound. After some "awws" and even an applause from people around, he pulled me aside to watch videos that my parents and little brother, his mom and grandparents, and some of my best friends had made for me for this moment. He told me that he "did his best in having my loved ones be a part of this moment one way or another." Yeah I was so emotional, let's just say thank god for waterproof mascara! Not even Disney or Nicholas Sparks could ever come up with such a prince charming like my fiancé.
