Got a taxi up to Mount Faber to catch the cablecar over to Sentosa Island, Singapores island resort, where we were to spend the day. Great view from the glass-bottomed cabin over the jungle and out to sea, where there are hundreds of ships anchored, and the conatiner port. The island is undergoing a huge development, with the construction of a Universal Studios theme park and resort.
Quite a lot to do and we put together a package from what was available - sky-tower ride, images of singapore museum, 4-D movie and buttterfly/insect park.
Place was fairly empty when we arrived at Imbiah so it was straight up the sky-tower for a revolving view of the island and Singapore. Pretty warm, so an icecream before heading into the butterfly/insect park. Amazing collection of preserved creepy-crawlies and butterflies from all over the world. Outdoor enclosure housed hundreds of butterflies too along with a collection of exotic parrots.
By now the place was teeming with tourists, so it was time for a bite to eat before going into the Images of Singapore museum/exhibition. Plenty of photos and dioramas of the founding and settlement of Singapore - very interesting. The queues were now quite large and it was a 40 minute wait to get into the 4D movie "Pirates". Not too bad and probably worth the wait to experience the 3D movie with motion seats and wind and real water in your face and behind your neck and legs, to emulate the wind in the sails, spalshing water, bat wings and other scenes.
Then it was down the hill to the beachfront - first for some dinner and then to the "Songs of the Sea" show. It was a pretty good with lasers, fireworks and projected images onto water spray 'screens'. Performers were pretty lame but overall it was good, although we got pretty damp from all the salt-water spray. Caught the monorail back to the 'mainland'. Were going to get a taxi back to the hotel but the queue was huge so we caught the underground back instead. Unfortunately we couldn't hail a taxi anywhere around the metro station, so ended up walking back to the hotel.
