At our hostel we met Joe (from Yorkshire) and the three of us braved the heat and went for lunch in a little cafe in the street. I had a hamburger and it was amazing, but to be honest, anything other than rice, spaghetti, meat and beans would have been nice. I spent the rest of the afternoon in a sweaty internet cafe next to a guy who continually burped really loudly. When I got back to the hostel, instead of finding Alex I found a note that said "gone in search of a marching band - back soon". 2 minutes later she returned after following a youths marching band through the streets of Leticia. For dinner we had our first Colombian beer and some really good picuru (massive fish from the Amazon)... then across the road for a milkshake.
Day 45 - With the clocks going back another hour from the boat to Leticia we both woke up really early and sat on the balcony. We found an amazing bakery and sat for over an hour eating scrambled eggs in little frying pan and watching all the men dressed in full camoflage go off to work on their motorbikes. Leticia is officially the nicest border town I have ever been to, with the exception of the park, which is completely covered in bird poo from the mass of parrots that descend upon it at dusk.
We took a very beaten up taxi to the airport (a little under 1.5 kms away) and managed to use our last reals. The taxi driver had to open our doors for us since they seemed to lack to necessary parts to open from the inside. Straight to immigration to get our passports stamped and then checked in. The airport is a little like a train station and as we went through security a basket with one man's belongings fell off the conveyor into a flower pot, and I spent the next 5 minutes trying to retrieve them. In our quest to travel on as many modes of transport as possible, we were pretty excited about our first flight to Bogota!
