Hey guys! Jambo!
So been kind of hard to get to the internet so far but Now in Zanzibar untill tomorrow afternoon. I'll then be heading to Dar es Salaam where I'm meeting Stacey, the other volunteer, on saturday. Can't wait to start work and get settled.
So many things to say I really don't know where to begin!
firstly, although I will be putting photos up, there's no way im bothering with facebook photo so you'll have to visit my blog on www.offexploring.com/esther-w. But Im not sure when or how im going to be able to do that so don't hold your breath.
Safari was AMAZING! Even if the rest of it has been a bit of a mess so far.
Got off the plane a Kilimanjaro airport (which i nearly didn't as no one else was getting off and they didnt even open the passenger doors!). They seemed to just be loading more luggage so i just waited untill I panicked at the fact that the plane was moving again! Apparently it was going on and no one had told me that I could get off lol.
Anyways, I was literally the only person in the airport except for a whole gaggle of taxi driver waiting outside. So I promptly lost a whole loada money to a questionable taxi driver. Luckily the guy who was organising my Safai turned up just at the right moment and managed to get the majority of my money back an hour later, after a lot of argueing in very fast swahili. Once He sorted it all out, we drove to a hotel in Moshi where I was to be staying the night before getting a bus to Arusha early next morning for the Safari. Ofcourse, having lost my american dollars to the taxi driver, I then found my card wasnt working so it was all great fun trying to tell this guy that after helping me, I couldn't pay him.
The bus ride itself to Arusha was also great fun. Apart from the many people hanging out the side of the door in order to fit as many people in as possible, we then got stopped by the police half way. who proceeded to ask for tickets from everyone...of which we had none.
It was hilarious, the 2 conductors had to step out and talk to the officer for a while. they took so long that the driver then got out to check it out. Not entirely sure what happened in the end but what I do know is that the driver came sprinting back, jumped in and drove off. just slow enought for the 2 conductors to run and jump on the side!
As for the safari, I don't have time to say more right now but will tell about it all soon.
Hope you're all well
Lots of love
