"Greetings everyone,
I thought that perhaps the time had come to write another "not much content" filled email to let you know what's going on in my neighbourhood these days.....but to be quite honest I am not sure as to what to write seeing as I can't remember what I have already written before, how long ago it was and/or what I have done since that point. I'll attempt the mission all the same. So, right at this moment in time I am at my first elementary school of the week (and my favourite!) The only downside to this school is that I often finish quite early but I have to wait for a lift. So, for an example to make sure you understand my daily events I finished my lessons at 12:10....had a spot of lunch....and my chauffeur picks me up at 4.30pm. He is my chauffeur. It's official. He wanted to known as my driver at first but I soon adjusted that title. I want to feel more important! Why? Because I am damn it!
Last weekend it was one of the 'girls' birthday and we decided to head up to Seoul , the capital of South Korea (see you are being educated all the time......I will be a good teacher one day! And if you already knew that, I probably told you before...or if you think I didn't...well...that doesn't mean you're smarter than me!) We did a bit of shopping (which I hated.) It was really cold and there were way too many foreigners. I thought I was alone in my hatred towards the other foreigners in that town. However, as soon as I aired my opinions (and let's face I'm never too quiet about them) to my fellow Iksan folks they agreed. I'm not going to lie I didn't like the lack of attention I was receiving. Whether it be the bad, good or awkward. In Iksan, you are constantly glared at like you have warts on your face or like you forgot to get dressed that morning.....that would be truly dreadful! So, going from a slightly bizarre spectacle to an absolute back drop was a sudden shock to the system. (I am exaggerated a bit here....but I am just trying to keep your attention!)
So, out in Seoul. Got on all sorts of tubes. Luckily, I just followed the others who had the tube maps. I wasn't fully aware of anything as it was 9 am and I was knackered from my long week of teaching naughty, hyperactive, Korean speaking children! I'd like to point out now that I had recently learnt some new words to aid my teaching. This is a necessity due to the fact on Fridays I have 1 lesson without a co teacher. The kids are actually mental. This is also the class where I accidentally asked a girl in a wheelchair to stand up! That didn't happen and luckily she couldn't speak English (neither could any of the others) so I quickly saved the situation by speaking more English until their faces looked really confused...this is the moment that you just dive in and say "so do you understand?" they quite obviously say "what? no" which is fine....because it changes the subject.....erm I'll tell you now I am not going to re read this before I send it as I am fully aware of the fact my typing is awful and I am drifting like a plank off a ship wreck that has been in the waters far too long and is rapidly falling apart...but I am of sound mind...so do not fret.........what was I saying...? Why am I talking about a shipwreck in the Yellow sea (yeah more education for you....the Yellow sea in situated west of South Korea.) The words I have learnt are........"haagaarr maarrr!!" translated means "don't do that!" "cho yunn" "be quiet!" and "tar k'geaa" "be louder" (the last one probably isn't the best one to learn.) Ah I also learnt "I'm the best" so when the students ask (and they do all the time) "do you speak Korean?" I can say "ne, dagar chagar!" oooooooooohhh learn the important stuff......So, in English, to the naughty little f?@!#*! I will call them "rubbish' a lot. And ask what's wrong with them. Although it often goes over their heads it makes me feel better. It is a therapy that seems to working as I have yet to have a mental breakdown. If I continue with this method I am sure it will be a good 20 years before the tell tell signs start to appear!
Ah wait I was talking about Seoul.............yeah so we went out and celebrated........for a very long time...5.30pm until 6am...........that's too much! Way too much. In a nutshell it was a big ole laugh! The people are really sound (my Iksan people that is, not the other round eyes in Seoul!) Watch England play and lose the rugby.........which was playing at 4am in the morning! Crikes indeed! Struggled to find our hostel. So me and a friend slept in the living room as there were too many of us in the bedroom. This displeased the hostel owner very much (he was majorly pissed off anyway as another one of our friends came back earlier and made the taxi man phone the hostel owner at 5.30am. Therefore waking him up.) We were asked to leave. It was about 8am. Oh how I wished I had bothered to pay attention on the way to Seoul as I ended up just hoping for the best, keeping my fingers crossed and worked out how to use the tubes. See guys this is what I am saying. I am smart and I will not hear anything differently! On the way to the hostel it took so much longer but I got us to the right station just like that...like a flash of lightening some people might say?!! Or not?! Yeah so Seoul was fun!
Erm apart from that I don't think I have done much or I have told you already?? Still need to do some exploring. Got paid........went to buy some bed covers but couldn't find the luscious ones I wanted!! Damn it!! I'll get them soon. I need a camera. I need a phone...I need a lot of things!! Ah I'm having trouble with my internet phone as Nina knows as she is my guinea pig! She heard my voice the other day, so that's a move in the right direction!
Yeah so I think I have not only bored you but I have also bored myself! The fact is this is everyday life now and so not many stories to tell........oh I went to a tea festival the other week that was cool. Got to roll some tea leaves. Drank some free green tea. At which the woman in a Hanbok (traditional Korean dress) felt the need to inform that I should drink more as it gets rid of (patting her belly)...........b****! I nearly threw a pot at her. To be fair I am now drinking a lot of Green tea these days. But I think/I hope it is counteracting with the amount of beer I seem to be drinking! Arms and legs are on the downsize but Barry belly is well and truly loving life at the moment. Some might say I am getting that "pumpkin" figure....similar to an apple but a bit more generous. O h I do wish at night for that! (Suppose every time I sip from that Cass glass or any other cheap Korean beer...way too cheap for it.) "
An email written before Christmas!
