Stellenbosch
We arrived in Stellenbosch about lunch time, John and his cooking group went shopping for meat for our braai that evening (South African version of BBQ). John and I went for a wander around the town- which we completely fell in love with- its pretty, friendly and full of fun restaurants and bars! When we got back to the hostel John went and helped cook the braai and I went and had a gossip and a drink with all the girls while I straightened my hair-woo hoo! (it's the small things in life you take pleasure from.) We were having the braai a couple of doors down at another part of the hostel- it looked good it had a pool but unfortunately it didn't turn out to be too succesful as the electricity had gone out there and nobody had torches, it was still pretty tasty though. After this we headed into town for a good drink. The next morning we went for a wander around town and found a lush little café where we had a full English...we don't like to rough it much... the café had a dead fancy courtyard with lots of trees draped over the top. Other than us it was full of white posh people, I think we may have lowered the tone but it was only a couple of quid though… so we went again the next day-its no wonder our guts are expanding so much!
The Wine Tour
After our brekky we all went on the wine tour. They take you to 4 different vineyards which are absolutely stunning, beautiful gardens with ponds and backdrops of mountains and picturesque scenery. Then basically they just give you glass after glass of different wines, some different cheeses and then drive you to the next place. At lunch time they took you to the most stunning restaurant where you sit outside in these beautiful gardens and gave us really nice food. They had lots of tortoises that they had rescued, one of the poor things had a flat back as a car had ran over him- it looked quite comical! At another place they had a tower where lots of goats live- it looked crazy, check out the pics. Both of us learnt a lot about wine and had a wicked day but unfortunately neither of us are converted wine drinkers and in the last place despite trying another 5 glasses of wine we decided to 'treat ourselves' and bought a pint of ale and a bacardi breezer- sorry we are giving the North East a bad name being so uncultured but we really enjoyed these drinks!
The Evening in Stellenbosch
After the wine tour we all got changed quickly and headed to this fab wine bar (don't worry they served cocktails and lager as well) in town, after a couple here we ate at an amazing seafood restaurant full of fish tanks and a revolving sushi bar. We stuffed our faces with Calamari and Cajun chicken… we even got desserts! Then after eating too much to walk we headed off to bed. Not a bad day at all… it's a tough life doing this travelling business! During the night John had an attack off the Larium craziness, he started shouting at Dale to get away from him as he had thought Dale was running in to tickle Dave- everyone woke up and wanted to know what he was talking about as Dale wasn't in our room- Crazy John! The next day we left Stellenbosch which we were gutted about as we really enjoyed it but we were both excited to see Capetown!
