OK Verdict in, Absolutely hated bangkok-everyone is out to rip you off, thailand just didnt impress us at all with very few exceptions. Got the train on wednesday at four in the morning, very crowded, very hot but amazing scenery as thailand seemed to melt imperceptibly from noisy dirty city to beautiful rural countryside. Managed to get up at half 9 today so getting better. Been having breakfast at the little cafe in the hostel where they serve british-type food like boiled eggs and soldiers. Bangkok is very crazy, one minute we're all loving the people the culture etc and the next we feel like people are just out to rip us off.We did attempt to get straight into the time zone here but ended up sleeping in til half 1 yest but feel ok, not affected really. LESSONS: THINGS WE HAVE LEARNED IN BANGKOK 1. Wherever possible make your own way anywhere-you will get there faster and have more fun...and often for free! 2.Never EVER take your malaria meds on an empty stomach 3. Dont be truthful about how naiive a traveller you are. (First time in Bangkok? No!) 4. Water is best consumed cold, i.e. ten seconds after purchase. It will be hot in thirty. 5. TUK TUK DRIVERS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS 6. Americans are your friends....
