It is the 31st of March, 3pm local time, and we hope you are all well, wherever you're reading this from. Currently, we're sitting in our hostel in a bustling Phnom Penh using the free and remarkably slow internet. We always feel dirty here, even when we shower twice a day. The heat has already surpassed any of our expectations and we look forward to standing under a cold shower which at home would leave us with hypothermia, but here leaves us mildly refreshed if only for an hour or so. But I digress. I'm sure you are all dying to hear what happened after last blog's cliffhanger ending. It doesn't exactly make for romantic adventure storytelling let me assure you. At 3am on the 27th March, a day which was supposedly marked out for a majestic sunrise over one of the wonders of the world, I began to feel ill. At 3.07am I was revisited by last night's snake dinner. At about 4am, Louise joined me and at about 5am Steph cancelled our tuktuk to Angkor and we were collectively relieved to have bought a three day ticket. There isnt a lot more to tell. We stayed in bed til lunch time at which point we decided to risk brunch in the rooftop cafe. Frosties and a fruit shake later, I felt well enough to go with Steph to hunt for an internet cafe, but Lou headed back to the room after cornflakes and stayed on in the hostel trying to get over the snake. Having successfully found a small internet shop we tried calling home with no success, and tried uploading photos with even less success. Emails sent and some chatting on msn later, we headed back to check on Lou who still felt awful. Not wanting to go far, we went to the rooftop cafe in the hostel and sat with Nic and Andy, and Craig, whose girlfriend Sarah was ill too from the previous night's food in the same restaurant. We stayed here until quite late, then took Lou for a walk to buy fruit for breakfast at Angkor the next morning. Feeling awful, we had to quickly take her back and upgrade our room to air conditioning to try and cool her down! Steph and I went back to the rooftop cafe til late and managed a toastie and another fruit shake before bed.
I wont keep you in suspense....we made the sunrise next morning. But that's another blog!
