Erica's Travels
We arrived in Indonesia on the 10th December as flew into Padang city.
Bit of hassle to start off with as the lonely planet guide says that you can get a visa on arrival for a maximum of 60 days. Well we arrived and the maximum you can get is 30 days and you needed to pay and of course we had no local money on us so luckly they were nice people and escorted me through the airport to get some cash to pay for our visas. However, we now have to fly back out of Indonesia and back in to allow us to stay for the total of 35 days needed....oh the joy of it all. So lonely planet basically screwed up on their info in the book which isn't a good thing.
Managed to get a bus to the town and found a hotel which was quiet and comfortable...a good thing too as didn't get much sleep in Singapore as too many load people around...oh and the muslim prayer time is a 5 in the morning...oh the joy
Being in Indonesia is like going back to Vietnam. very basic...very cheap and the people are fasinated by us. So far we have been stopped by 3 groups of students with their teacher asking if they can practice their English on us and of course take loads of photos...very interesting..so basically we are like celebraties out here.
We are now in Bukittinggi which is a town in the mountains...so far the people are very friendly and its much cooler here as we are higher up. tomorrow we are going to Danau Maninjau to see a lake and stay there for a few days...oh and one of our main tours will be to get a car and go to the equator which is in a place called bonjol.
Once I get to a faster pc and connection I will download some pictures but until then you will have to put up with the one provided by STA Travel.
Lots of love
