We've decided to hire a car for a couple of weeks in Mexico. Bus transport is excellent here but there are so many places we want to visit and a car will give us the freedom to stop off anywhere we please and give us more flexibility of choice of hotels. We booked the smallest and cheapest available but they've given us a free upgrade to a VW Gol as there were none of our choice avaliable so we are quite delighted and they allowed both of us to drive with no extra charge...normally £11 per day for extra driver so a real bargain. All the streets running north to south in Merida are evenly numbered and all the east to west have odd numbers, with a one way system on alternative streets so it's very easy to navigate our way out of Merida and we are soon on our way to Celestun on the Mexican Gulf on the west coast of Yucatan. We check out a few hotels and settle for a cheap and cheerful place for one night overlooking the beautiful beach of white sand and nobody sunbathing on it....so quiet.
