After our drunken bus and boat journey we arrived at Koh Phagnan, famous for its full moon party which consists of up to 30000 people drinking buckets of whiskey, coke and red bull, covering themselves in glow paint and partying until the sun comes up. Clearly we weren't here for a relaxing few days topping up our tans.
On arrival, we headed to our hostel, checked in and caught up on some sleep. We decided to stay at Coral Bungalows which is well know for its big pool parties in the lead up to full moon.
We woke up, got ready and headed for dinner before the pool party. During drinking games Rosella and I managed to convince Albert that because we had maths brains we could memorise the order that all 52 cards came out in.......the first of many gullible Albert moments.
A couple of buckets down and we decided that it was the right time to have a swim. The pool was full of people drinking, dancing, playing shoulder wars, and "pairing up" for the night. After a bit of a mess around, Rosella announcing that she was weeing in the pool and Albert deciding that the girl throwing herself at him in the pool wasn't 'the one', we got out and headed to the beach.
When we arrived at the beach, there were people sitting around drinking but there was no music. This turned out to be due to the Thai 'Big Buddha' festival.
We grabbed a bucket from a guy named Romeo, well that's what the sign said his name was, and whilst he poured our drinks he passed us his 5 month old son, Pan, to hold. Very trusting considering we had clearly had a few drinks. He was possibly the cutest baby I have ever held.
After playing with the baby we headed for a walk along the beach. Remembering from last time, I said to Albert, "what ever you do, please do not have a go on the fire skipping rope". Can you guess what Albert did as soon as we saw the fire skipping rope? Yep. He went straight to it and started jumping! The most common way of stopping the rope of fire is with your legs or ankles and Albert decided to use this method too. We stayed to watch a few others having a jump. One western guy was doing backflips and one of the locals was jumping in the push up position. Both slightly more impressive than Albert.
We headed on to another bar on the beach, still no music but there was a decent size crowd. When I nipped to the toilet I got chatting to a guy called Alex and he and his friends Jon and Sam joined us for a bucket. Here is where we heard that Sam was incompetent with women and so Albert and I decided to play wingman. After succeeding in this Albert and I felt our night was complete and so at 6 we headed home. Where was Rosella at this point? Her and Alex had apparently dared each other to streak down the beach so they were casually running around Thailand naked.
On our return to our hostel at 6am the pool party was still going on. We got speaking to one guy as he was leaving and he told us just how civilised it had turned out. One story consisted of one guy shagging a girl and on completion, passing her on to his mate to have a go. Clearly our evening was quite tame. We obviously were going to have to step things up a bit.
The next morning (afternoon) we woke up, and Albert realised that he had lost his third pair of sunglasses in four days. We headed to a place called Mellow Mountain to chill out for a bit, before heading back to get ready for night two.
That night started off pretty similar to the first. Pool party at Coral Bungalows and leaving before we could catch any STIs from the water. Rosella didn't make it out past half 12, so Albert and I headed to the beach with Jon, his mate Ben and Ben's girlfriend Tasha.
On arrival to the beach it quickly became clear just how drunk Jon was so we took him in the direction of his bungalow. To get to where he was staying we passed the fire rope again. Albert and Jon gave it a go and both went with the standard stopping method of ankles/legs.
As we took Jon up to his bungalow I turned around to see Albert up a tree. As I demanded that he came down instantly, Albert put his hand on a branch that snapped and he fell from the tree. I would have given him time to climb down but he decided on the quick route. Thankfully he was fine so we headed back to the beach for another bucket.
After roaming around the beaches, buckets in hand, and meeting loads of people, including some from Singapore, we headed back to the hostel. This is where the drunken antics started. As Rosella has informed us, we stumbled in and covered her with a couple of bottles of water. We then followed this up by slipping over in the water, before Albert decided to get naked and show Rosella where his bum hole was. In case she still wasn't sure I pointed it out too (there was no contact made though). Apparently we put on a good show.
Day 3 of Koh Phagnan, the Full Moon Party. What more can I say? We woke up late, feeling quite sorry for ourselves. We knew that it was Full Moon night and so we had to get up for it. We put on some glow paint, Albert using his artistic nature to paint Rosella and I before making himself look like one big blob on glow paint.
We made friends with the guys from next door, which included a guy called Adam. These guys were 19. I could have taught them!!! Man I'm getting old. Anyway, we grabbed these children and headed to the bar for a bucket. We bought some flashing bunny ears, which we were to use as beacons to find each other if we got lost during the party......and we looked cool.
On the walk down to the beach, Einstein (Albert) decided it was a fantastic idea to smash a glass pot of paint on the road. This is where a piece of glass flicked up and caught the back of my leg. This led to the back of my leg being covered in blood. That's right, I walk around beaches bare foot for a few nights and I'm fine but as soon as we let Albert bring a pot of paint out I'm bleeding. Don't worry, I was fine! I soldiered on for the rest of the evening.
Nothing particular really happened on the Full Moon. We all got split up, Albert ended up going with a Finnish girl called Veera, Rosella was with Adam, and I was walking around with Jon. Jon and I spent the whole evening walking around and meeting people before eventually heading to bed at about 7.
The morning after the night before was again the afternoon after the night before. It was however our day of rest. After a few days going hard we were definitely having a day off.....until Pete (one of Susie's mates from Belgium) sent us a message telling us to come to the after party.
So again we headed to the beach, drank some buckets and had a bit of a dance. We also bumped into Geri and Natalie, two girls Rosella knows from Manchester, and Eddie, from the bus from Bangkok. After a few buckets Albert thought it was the best time to try a mushroom shake. Rosella and I escorted him to keep an eye, watched him force it down and then not much happened....
Now day 5 was definitely the day of rest. Koh Phagnan started getting a lot quieter and so we spent the night playing cards, chilling out and getting an early night. Seriously!!! Not even a casual beer. We had to be up the next morning at 6.30 for a bus to Koh Tao where we are looking to do some diving and relaxing.
Hope everyone enjoys the read.
