We got up and packed this morning, then had our free brekkie by the pool, Mike had toast and I had a banana jaffle which is basically a banana toastie, was really gd! We then got a taxi with another english couple to Ubud, it took about an hour to get there. Once we arrived we got dropped off down Monkey Forest and went in search for accomodation! After looking at a few we found one down a long alley called Rice Paddies, its only 80,000 ruppie, so a fiver, a big room, not the best but gd for one night and the price we r paying! No pool, but for less than a quid we use next doors, which overlooks a rice field!
So we arrived about lunchtime and went straight out to explore, we headed down the hill to the Monkey Temples. It was a pound to go in, and there are monkeys everywhere!! We bought two small bunches of bananas which lasted less than 5 mins as as soon as they see them they head straight for you and if you dont give them one they attack you!! Mike threw one bag as about 4 moneys headed for him lol !!! It is quite a large area you can walk around, with temples in also. There are just so many monkeys tho, as we walked down some stairs to take pic of this tiny baby monkey the mum got mad and got his teeth out at Mike which made him scream like a girl lol. They are pretty scary tho!
After seeing the monkeys we headed back up towards the top of Monkey Forest road, we went for a wander up there, then headed back to the pool for a while to cool down as we were so hot, its not as humid here but just walking around makes you sweat! That night we headed out for dinner and had some drinks at a reggae bar, which had a live band playing which was a really good night.
The next morning we got up at about 10am and I went to "reception" (a guys room!) as we are staying in a homestay, to order brekkie. It was brought to our balcony and was so nice, banana crepes with a sweet sauce over them, and a massive bowl of fresh fruit, pineapple, mango, watermelon and banana and I had a cup of tea, far from PG Tips but very nice! So after a good breakfast which we dont normally have we headed out for the day. We first walked to the local traditional market which was good, not as big as the markets in Thaliand but all selling really nice stuff, we bought like a scroll which had a statement on it about happiness or something, lol, but we thought it would look nice somewhere when we get a place as will remind us of Bali. If Bali was our last stop we would have bought alot more. After the market we walked further west and looked around some really nice traditional temples. We then had a drink at a really lovely cafe, it was down a dull looking path, but so nice once you got there, little huts with cushions on the floor and low tables, the hut hung out over the edge of a big rock, below us was a small river where the Balinese were washing their clothes and themselves!
We then went back to our bungalow and had a swim. That night we treated ourseleves to a very nice dinner in a posh restuarant!! We managed to get the last 2 seats as people pre-book. We were seated near the front of the water temple which were good seats for the night as there was a performance of the traditional balinese dance. We sat on cushions on the floor with a low table. For starters we shared spring rolls with satay sauce and samosas with a tomatoe paste thing, it was yummy! For main we both had chicken in a really nice sauce with sweet potato chips and salad, then we shared chocolate brownies and vanilla ice cream! It was a good night and worth the extra money.
On our walk back to our bungalow, we managed to get a driver for the next day as we wanted to see various places around Bali. Mike generally doesnt barter and goes with the first price which you shouldnt do as you can always get it cheaper, so i managed to get a whole pound off !!! whoo!! Go me!
