Emily's Trip
hey everyone! you ready for the sunday session?... well even if your not here it comes!
SUNDAY: well we decided to use the "hop on hop off" bus which is similar to the baz-bus idea i'm thinking of using for part of my break! we planned to start on table mountain so we got up rather early and went outside to hail down the bus at 8! (believe it or not even i managed it... i know miracles do happen lol). we took one look outside and we thought oh b******s (if you'll pardon the french!), we couldn't see the bottom of table mountain, when our hostel was meant to have a full view, because of all the mist - wasn't looking good. but we thought lets go anyway - maybe we'll see from the top instead of the top... we got on, paid for our tickets and off we went on the upper deck - was very warm, if not a little breezy so we came off with the bed head/just walked through a hedge backwards look... very very attractive! on the bus our tour guide was the most adorable thing you've ever seen - he was about 68 (just a random guess lol) and had this little red ensemble on and a little red hat with a rim and a bit of elastic under the chin (well one of them anyway :oP), but he knew absolutely everything you could know about the place... as all the guides seemed to... was really interesting! he told us about the history of the mountain and what parts were what and about the fire and what it was like before hand and he showed us the view down overlooking CT and the harbour and stuff - that was beautiful! we got to the cable car pick up station and paid for our trip up - it was rather far to contemplate walking on a very early sunday morning! it wasn't too expensive though as nothing around here is... so up we went on these revolving bubbles. i found it a little disconcerting spinning up table mountain going at 10 metres per second when you are going into thick white stuff and cant see a thing around you... yeh you worked it out - the mist was most definitely still there! at the top there was no view and we thought oh great - what a way to blow a nice sum of money HOWEVER (here the weather gods come into play) after about 5 mins of us being up there the mist suddenly started to move slowly but surely... was actually rather fascinating physically seeing the clouds roll away and little patches of view coming through like a progression... got more and more beautiful as it went on and really was an amazingly stunning view once the whole of the mist had cleared, which it did, yay! after about an hour of photo taking and marvelling we got a trip down on the cable car (a bit of ear poppage going on i'll tell ya) and we discussed our next move while waiting for the bus to arrive at the stop.
we were so busy checking out the route stops that we actually nearly missed it and wasn't able to get on lol...
we did hop back on tho and went and rejoined our tour guide to go on to camps bay which is just a stunning fairly well known beach. our tickets entitled us to discounts at some places and one of these was a restaurant right on the beach front called theo's. we were aiming to have a quick lunch there and then hop back on an hour later to go onto some museums and green point market... however the food didn't quite emerge as fast as we'd have liked and the bus sailed past just as my mussels were being brought to the table... oh they were good tho!!! while we ate we were entertained by a small group of traditional african dancers exactly like the ones in that photo i always have up beside these journals... was very cute, very strange and over all just rather funny lol. well we decided that we would probably all be staying on till the monday anyway and thought well its such a nice day (as it had become) we'll do a bit of sunbathing and play on the beach while we wait for the 4 o'clock bus! we did just that and had a really nice relaxing hour until we hopped on again straight to green point market! there were hundreds of stalls all selling gorgeous canvas hangings, wooden carvings and bowls and such, african jewellery and all sorts and you had to be careful not to stop off at one stall for too long or you were there for aaaaages being bargained with... the main line being yelled all over being "hey lady... bargain price bargain price". being called lady seems to be the way here!
the market was the last stop so we had to wait there while a taxi came to pick us up as the stalls were all being packed away - we pretty much all crashed on the way home in the taxi as we were all pretty shattered from a long day! however that didn't mean we weren't up for another of those wonderful african meals... yeh i know i know how did we have room - god knows but one things for sure - WE DID! we went to another place just opposite the africa café called marco's. it took us about half an hour to get there when it was a 10 min drive... this taxi driver was something else - we knew CT better than he did i think and how to drive and work the taxi, was insane! we arrived safely though if not a little later than planned and we ordered our meals, i, like caroline, had a fillet of ostrich springbok and kudu in a peppercorn sauce - was very nice! the kudu was my favourite even though i don't know what it is... oh well! again we were entertained by a live african band singing songs in xhosa - sounded very funny but pretty cool... one of the songs i think you might know it had everyone joining in when they sang the chorus in english, now how did it go?!?! oh i remember... "in the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight, dad um dad um dad um da, in the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight, ah weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" and you know the rest... we left exceedingly late - i think all the staff were waiting to go home really badly - the restaurant was meant to close at 11 and let me think... i believe it was 12 o'clock by this time. oops! well we got home and crashed!
and that is sunday lol... just like that!
right now i'll have a go on monday lol... lots of love to you all
