On Monday (our last day in Australia), we went to the Pylon lookout. This is one of four concrete and granite structures at the ends of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can climb about 200 steps to get a great lookout of the opera house and of the city. It is about halfway to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge where we had climbed almost two weeks ago. After the Pylon lookout we went to the Sydney Fish market again so we could eat lunch there this time. There were still just as many Asian people in the fish market. We saw one family buy an almost 800$ lobster!! That was insane. It was huge but still 800$ is crazy. We decided to split one of the baskets for two that included fried fish and calamari, bbq baby octopus, oysters, scallops, and sweet crab. I tried it all! The octopus was very different it literally looked exactly how an octopus would look in water with tentacles and a head and everything. I ate two of them and it was enough for me… not a fave. The scallop was pretty good but the oyster was yuck! It was so bad and salty and slimy. This was my last day and basically the last bit of money I had. Needed to live the day on 50$ and I managed it. But that lunch was like almost half of my 50$... but worth it to try all the food I would never try before. We then headed over to Bondi Beach. The famous beach of Sydney. We walked along Bondi and the rocks to the different viewpoints of the area. Then we went shopping for last minute souvenirs. I had taken Ariana to one of my favorite dessert places in Adelaide called San Churro and there was one at Bondi. So we went there for a late afternoon snack of churros and melted chocolate. Yum! So good and I will miss it very much! Then it was back to the city to get our bags together and prepare for the long journey home the next day.
On Tuesday, we traveled to the airport for our 11 am flight where this journey comes to a close. I am now writing this last entry on my plane somewhere over the Pacific in route to Los Angeles. I can't believe I am headed home now and soon back in the United States. This journey has been absolutely incredible. I've learned so much about myself, different viewpoints and cultures, and really opened my eyes to come out of my bubble. This experience has been unforgettable and I will always cherish the memories and friends and experiences I've had in Australia and Adelaide. I'm so thankful to have had this opportunity and really hope my friends and others will take a chance to live abroad on their own for a while. I am very excited to go home but I also know I will soon Miss Australia very much.
Until the next adventure! Thank you to everyone who was supportive of me and most of all to my parents and family who let me go on this travel experience.
