Ems and Steve Travelling
So here goes for the last entry in our journal! :-(
We left Chumphon by train at 20.45. We had our own cabin and we were pretty tired so we chilled for a bit and then went to sleep. We arrived in Bangkok at around 5.45am. We got a taxi to the hotel and checked in. We had a shower and then headed to The Grand Palace via a tailors. At the tailors we chose (eventually) our material and were measured up. We then went to the Grand Palace which is where the previous King used to live but the present King has opened it up to the public. There is currently a year long celebration as the King as been on the throne for 60 years. We had a guide take us around and we learnt some interesting things about the Thai monarchy! We also experienced a Thai thunderstorm while we were there and saw the Emerald Buddah. It was a very hot day so after our tour we headed back to the hotel to have a siesta! We had dinner in a Chinese restaurant and then headed to Kao Sahn Road where we picked up a few bargains.
The next day we got a taxi to Safari Land. We first went in the marine park which is basically a series of shows - sea lions, dolphins and a stunt show. We also had our picture taken with a tiger cub but we were a bit wary of how they were treated. We just hope the money we paid will go to the tigers. After watching the shows we got on a bus to go into the safari park where we saw tigers, lions, zebras, giraffes, rhinos etc! When we got back tot he hotel we had something to eat and then got ready to be picked up by the tailor. We went for our first fitting and had a few pins stuck into our clothes to make sure they fitted! We then got dropped off at the sky train station and caught it to Nana on Sukhumvit Road. We had arranged to meet one of my old school teachers James Penstone and his wife, Kate on a bar in Soi 12 but it turned out to be in Soi 11 (on the other side of the road!). After a few drinks and hearing the good news that Kate is pregnant we went to a pizzeria for a bite to eat.
The next day we went to Chatachun weekend market which was absolutely huge. It was all under cover and impossible to see everything as it was set out in hundreds of small lanes! We did see some puppies and little pets for sale though. Despite seeing a lot of people on the sky train with empty bags ready to fill with their purchases, we didn't buy much especially as the clothes would just about fit over one arm! Having "We have size large and extra large" shouted at you isn't the nicest thing! We then got the sky train to MBK which is like a market but in an air conditioned shopping mall! We had a look around and then headed back to the hotel. The tailor came to our room at 6 for our final fitting and everything fitted perfectly so we kept the stuff. We then got ready to go out and headed to Sukhumvit road. We had a little look around the market and then had dinner in a Pizzaria before getting a taxi to the Penstone residence. We saw an elephant on the way just wandering down one of the sois! They were having a house warming party with 3 other houses around them. We drank lots of wine and had a bit of a dance before we headed home at about 1.30am.
Today we have been having a relaxing day before our flight tonight. We sorted out all of our stuff which took about 3 hours! I then had a full body massage and then we sat by the pool for a bit. We are going to go to Pat Pong night market now and then we will come back and have some food before getting our flight home! We will be back on English soil at around 6.30am before you're even awake I'm sure!
We hope you've enjoyed our journal as much as we have enjoyed our trip. Despite spending a lot of money we have had the time of our lives. We'll just have to watch the pennies from now on and the pounds will take care of themselves!
See you soon!
