Ems and Steve Travelling
Boo!
Just another update from Ems and Steve.
Well, our next was Langkawi, an island in north west Malaysia. We's decided about a week before we were due to arrive here that we just use the time to chill a little and take a holiday within a holiday. We booked into one which Emily has actually stayed in before (the Bejaya) but it wasn't until wegot off the ferry and into a taxi that Steve found out that it was a 5 star hotel. It wasn't particualry expensive as we had got in over the internet with "internet rates". We arrived at the resort and checked in, the rooms were all on stilts about 5/6 metres on the forest floor. Very nice.
We're not going to say waht we did from day to day as it all kinda blends in. Basically we didn't do a lot.
We sat by the pool for the majority of the time, had a few drinks at the pool bar, took several dips into the pool to cool off after sunbathing under the blistering sunshine.
On one of the days we decided to hire a Jet Ski for half and hour at a price of 100RM (6.9Rm to the pound - so less that 15 pounds) it was great fun flying about hitting the waves. We took it in turns to drive while the other held on for bitter life. There were a couple of moments where Emily was driving that the water started to come over one of the sides and it was a little scary that it was roll over and sink but she didn't manage let it do it. However, Steve did, for a second or so tool ong water was coming over the side with and before he had the chance to put the throttle down to get out of it we were fight for balance and the thing rolled over and we went swimming. Fortunally, at ythe time we were going about 1mph and actually found it quite funny at the time. But, we struggled to get back on and when we finally rolled it back and got on of course the engine wouldn't start - it didn't help that the back end was all under the water. We got picked up and taken back on another jet ski ans they had to send the boat out to tow our jet ski in oops. They tried to charge us for salt water damage to the engine but we argue that they didn't tell us that there would be a damage fee for rolling the thing - considering it was really easy to do we found that weird - but what really anooyed was that after less than 5 mins they gave up and send there was no fee - as if they were just trying to rip us off in the first place. Nevermind though.
We also went up to the Cable Car, which went up to about 700m to over look the entire ilsand it was a great view but we were a bit mystified by there being nothing else to do at the top when we were tld that there we was quite a fair bit to do.
Emily also painted a nice little sunset batik picture - which is "the best bit of art work i've ever done"!.
On the last night we went the night markets which have to be said were disapointing, maybe it's because the one in Kuala Lumper was so busy and so much as we exppected that the one here just was so different. So many more food and grocery stall for locals as opposed to bags, wallets, jewellry and dvds from KL.
Well that about sums up fours day of our trip, of course we had the in hotel restaurant that we visted that were very nice.
Another entry will follow shortly so don't go any where.
