Emma's Travels
Hello, I have pleasure in telling you all how sunny it is down under here at Coff's Harbour right now. I've been informed that last week the UK had a heat wave and you were all basking in glorious sunshine weather. Well after severe thunder and rain last night today has been so sunny, with hardly a cloud in the sky. Shona and I have been making the most of it while we are here in Coff's Harbour since we fly down to Sydney tommorrow and it is predicted to be much colder at about 17 degrees ( it is their winter after all). Anyway enough talk of the weather....
Last Saturday morning Michelle and James picked us up early from the youth hostel in Coolangatta and we travelled up to her mum's holiday apartment in Broad Beach. Just as well since I wouldn't have been able to last another night there, we were about 150 meters from the airport runway and the bunk beds shook every time a plane flew over head (OKAY MIGHT A SLIGHT EXAGGERATION BUT YOU GET MY POINT). The apartment in Broad Beach was luxury and it was nice not to have to walk outside to a communal bathroom. Saturday was spent chilling, walking around the town and then in the evening we went out for dinner to a Japanese restaurant. We sat right in front of the chef's who were cooking the food and they seemed to take a shining to Shona and I after hearing our accents. Next thing we knew we were in the middle of drinking our miso soup when one of the chef's flew an egg at Shona. It missed her by an inch and bounced off the table (it was a fake bouncy egg), both of us were in stitches with tears rolling down our face. Next up he started throwing pieces of omelette at guests to catch in their mouths. I missed of course (by a mile) and so did Michelle and James, Shona did well and caught it. It was a great meal and good night, something different from back home. Spent the night relaxing with wine in the apartment and watching the Australian Big Brother. It is sooooooooooooooooooo good by the way.
Sunday - decided to be very healthy and woke up early to do a 4k walk along the beach to Surfers Paradise. Once again walking along sand, hard work! So I felt no guilt when we got to surfers paradise and I ordered pancakes and cream for breakfast :O) Surfers Paradise reminded me a bit of Blackpool only with Sun. Lots of tourist shops and high rise flats. I'm glad to see that I've visited but wouldn't have wanted to stay there. In the afternoon we headed to a Theme Park just outside of the city called Dreamworld. Went on quite a lot of the rides, one in particular called the Terror Tower where you sit in a carriage and speed off at 170km an hour up a straight tower. You then stop for about 5 seconds mid air before plummeting backwards and free falling. BRILLIANT. Highlight of the day was probably the tiger show were we saw a tiger climb a tree and also getting to hold a kaola. I'll show you the photos when I get home. Oh and I also got to pat a baby crocodile. Madeline, no photos to prove this though
Monday - We drove up to a town called NOOSA which is a 2 hour drive from Broad Beach to visit Michelle's mum Carol and Graham. Noosa is a really nice, quiet but very rich area where Graham spotted Jennifer Aniston last week. Sunbathed on the beach, swam in the sea and then had the best ferrero rocher ice cream in the world. I'm licking my lips just thinking about it now. Mmmm
Yesterday - Grabbed the Greyhound from Broad Beach to Coffs Harbour (our last ever Greyhound ride) and arrived here at 3pm. We decided we've had enough of youth hostels and so splashed out on a 2 bedroom apartment over looking the sea. It has its own balcony, kitchen and everything. Didn't actually work out that much more expensive in the end. Nice to be able to sleep in a double bed and not a bunk bed with fear of falling off the top. Just had dinner in town and then watched BB again (its addictive.
Today - walked down to the jetty area and along the harbour. It is the season for whale watching and I was dying to see one. We walked up to a view point where we could see for miles and managed to see a tail splash in the distance and then a whale spurting some water. Pretty cool. We;ve spent the afternoon having lunch ata cafe on the marina front and then clothes shopping. You;'ll laugh but I've bought myself a fleece for heading to Melbourne. It was so cold the first time we were there. Tonight we are going back to the Jetty area to get some fish and chips.
Okay time is nearly up. I'll be home in 8 days, scary to think. See you all soon
