so. i got up to rainbow beach which was really just a sleepy town with nothing to do but it was a compulsory overnight stopover. there was a fella working at the hostel who did free walk tours up the sand dunes. he was like an 8th aboriginal so his grandads and stuff had passed on all their sweet nature boy knowledge. and he could talk to birds and knew all this cool forest stuff you could eat. i was proper sceptical at first but he was an absolute legend. i ate some red flower that taste of lettuce, some nectar from a flower and sap from a branch. was yummy. but the sap smelt of poo. when we got up the top it was a bit like Arcachon. and he gave a talk on the geology of the area. snooze fest. we walked up to the edge of the dune where there were over 74 different sand colour (aka about 6 browns) which is where the town got its name. we met a girl called Josie from Wimbledon on that walk and we've pretty much adopted her since then.
