We are now in Penang aka Georgetown-Malaysia which means I am now 8 hours ahead of you.
Phil's proper leprosy ridden. I'm still waiting for my email from him the little swine.
I was a bit sad to leave Ko Phangan coz we got really settled in, knew all the hotel staff, knew where everthing was and had a little international posse of mates. twas also such a lazy lifestyle. im REALLY excited for Australia now though and i think we're going to meet up with the lads from home, deme ( i think you've met her) and lots of people we've met out here as most people's paths will cross ours as they're all going north to south while we go south to north.
The train from Surat Thani came an hour an a half late. it turns out the Thai rail system is even more unreliable than ours. ater the internet we sat in a cafe for a few hours while we harboured a bit of a sugar rush as we drank lots of coke. we were really exhausted as we'd only had about an hour and a halfs sleep the night before. we got attacked by cockroaches when we were waiting at the station.
the trains was pretty cool because it was a special sleeper train filled with bunk beds so we both got a few hours sleep.
everyone had to get off at the malaysian border or passport control. me and jess' passports are looking wicked from all the wicked stamps :D. At the border there was a wicked sign orbidding hippies rom entering the country. which was pretty worrying or me as i looked proper rough and was wearing a sarong as a skirt coz malaysias muslim and all my shorts are too tiny. and my hair was a bit gross. luckily got through with no problem though.
When we got back on the train we had two indian old men sitting opposite us who were really sweet and kept asking us about the prices of everything in England.
the train took ages to get to butterworth (across the bridge from penang) and went about 30mph which was pretty frustrating.
Malaysias a bit weird because everything is in malaysian, chinois, english and arabic. its quite different to thailand as people drive like humans and not apes and taxis have seatbelts:D!! its a bit more westernised but still REALLY HOT.
our taxi driver took us to a decent budget hotel. our room has a tv, aircon, bathroom and a fan or 35 ringits which is about 7pounds. three poundsf fifty a night:D even cheaper than thailand!
its a bit annoying because we're so used to Thai baht now that we keep translating ringit to baht rather than pounds :S
i took all o my clothes to the laudrette last night or the first time since i've been away. i've been usint jess' travel was on my undies but i eel a bit bad when i keep knicking it off her. and it doesnt make your clothes feel that clean. im feeling very refreshed now. :D
we slept or 14 hours last night and only woke up when the mosque next door was calling for namaz- bit annoying >_> a well deserved kip after surviving on about 4 hours sleep out of 48 hours.
we pottered down to the supermarket today to get some more sun lotion, fruit and snacks. tonight we're going to the night market here coz i need a new bag as i've been carrying the dizons one i got my camera in around :S considering sending my travel iron home with my camera box :P
we are catching the bus tomorrow to kuala lumpar which takes our hours compared to the train which takes 8.
will update you again in kuala lumpar probably as we're there until the 1st or 2nd of march.
