8th & 9th July 2008: Leave Granada early in the morning (but not before getting a warm bagel and smoothie for breakfast!). Travel by bus to the port for crossings to Ometepe, an island in Lake Nicaragua created bytwo volcanoes. Apparently the lake is affected by what is known as ´short wave phenomenon´ making for very bumpy crossings, but the phenomenon is obviously not active on the day we cross as the lake is flat as a millpond. Ometepe is very pretty but there´s not much to do other than to relax and take it easy! We stock up on rum before heading to our hotel. Heavy rain in the afternoon and evening so we entertain ourselves with drinking rum into the small hours of the morning!
Another lazy day on Ometepe, snoozing in a hammock, reading eating and watching the world go by. I go and say hello to the horses kept next door but they all look skinny and unhappy so decide not to go for a ride along the beach. Finish my book, write postcards and eat before an early night as we have a long day tomorrow travelling into Costa Rica.
