After crossing the border on the train we got the underground to "little India" where Simon's mum and dad were, we met up and spent the whole day on the lash with a great group of locals who kept buying us drinks, Simons mum and dad left for their flight to Bali and one of the indians helped us find a hostal for 30 s$ (about 10 pound) Singapore is expensive when you are a backpacker but it incuded breakfast so we were happy
Next day we walked around the harbour taking lots of photos, when the heavens opened and it started pouring with rain, We came across an English pub so stopped for a drink and sheltered from the rain.
We walked back to our hostel and got changed to go to "Raffles Longbar" (We were told that you couldnt go in wearing shorts)It's the birth place of the singapore sling, so called because it's the only place you can throw litter on the floor in singapore without getting arrested, the bar was littered with monkeynut shells. We stayed for a while then had some more drinks by the harbour.
Next day we got tube to the bird park which Emma loved because of the parrots, an african grey which was flying freely near a cafe area took a shining to her and would not leave her ... untill it had destroyed her cornetto. That night went back to "clarke quay" on the harbour to a bar with a live band before going back to prepare for flight to Bali. Singapore is expensive but is a really lovely clean place
