Departed Belfast Saturday 9th Feb 3.30pm - Arrived Sydney 11th Feb 6.30am local time. Travel time total: 28 hours.
Now you may be thinking that 28 hours non stop travel with connections in London and Bangkok is a tad excessive, and may have been something of an ordeal but picture this...
a (relatively) comfy seat from which you have no need to move (except of course the odd dander to prevent the old Deep Vein Thrombosis- thanks for the socks Feeney!) pleasant hostesses bringing you drinks, snacks and rather tasty meals at regular intervals, a selection of new release and classic films, TV shows and a musical selection to rival anyones Ipod. What's not to love?! Add to this a bit of banter from my neighbour Dave who boarded the plane pissed as a fart and you've got the ingredients for a very enjoyable journey (Dave was travelling to Sydney for the birth of his first child: "inadequate precautions taken during his last visit in June")
So good was the inflight entertainment that I found myself spending quite a considerable amount of time deciding what Films I would select to watch given that I just didn't have enough time to see them all! I opted for 'Evening' first, which from the advert I saw looked like it might have a touch of Notebook-esk heartstring pulling greatness...but in actual fact was a bit pants. Cursing the loss of an hour of my precious travel time I switched over to Run Fat Boy Run which was a vast improvement! I followed this with Atonement (yes pk, it was pretty good) and finished up with Sliding Doors from the classic films library.
Total sleep time for the journey was approx 5 hours so when I arrived in Sydney at 6.30am (7.30pm home time) I expected to fall unconcious at any moment, but the excitement carried me through for another 12 hours.
