Ahh Canoa. Nearly didn't make it but it was worth it when we got there!
Our overnight bus from Quito to the coast was a nightmare! We thought we'd got it sussed by efficiently pre booking some first class tickets but when we tried to get on the posh bus at 11.30 at night we were told we were on the bus held together with bits of string next to it. After some umming and ahhing decided to risk it and spent the next 8 hours being thrown about the untarmaced roads watching out for landslides and bandits on a bus with holes in the floor and a driver with a liking for driving at break neck speads whilst listening to Jive Bunny cd's at full volume. No more overnight buses in Ecuador for us!
A ferry and another bus ride later we arrived in Canoa thoroughly worn out, but bouyed by the tranquilty of Canoa, a small fishing village turned surfers hide away.
Again we had only planned a couple of days, but the fatigue from the epic journey and the relaxed atmosphere of the place meant we were still enjoying happy hour cocktails 5 days later!
There was not much in the way of sightseeing so our days were spent chilling on the beach with some afternoon body boarding for exercise then into the bar to spend the evenings eating and drinking with the friends we made.
Naturally the first people we got chatting to were Irish Mark, owner of a bar in town, and Cal, owner of the restaurant next door, so that was us sorted for food and drink!
Met some wicked people at our Bambu hotel (made from bamboo on the beachfront), including a guy from Farnham.
It was a real effort to make the decison to pack our bags and leave, but Puerto Lopez was calling.
