I have had the best three days ever in Australia and although this email will never give it justice maybe if you look at the photos as well on my sta page you will understand what a beautiful place it is. We had to get up at 6:30 at the hostel and got put into 2 groups. We had a good ix of people al sorts of nationalities. Me and Nick were in charge of alcohol for the group, Amy and Sabrina in charge of food. We had to do all the boring stuff like where to go, how to drive 4x4, dingo awareness etc etc. Finally got on the road, the 11 of us, boarded the ferry and we were there. We stuck mainly with the suggested itineray and saw lake Mckenzie first and did some walk. The lake was gorgeous, we had a swim, me and a couple of the lads saw something and panicked, turned out to be a duck! We then took food from the roof and made lunch before attempting a walk. The tide times were given to us so we could only drive on the beach at certain times. So our walk was disturbed as we had to get back to the car. We then drove to the campsite, where macca, the ranger in charge of the area met us. Oh my god he scared the living daylights out of me, not only were there Dingos, but deadly snakes and spiders oftern were seen in the campsite. Yeah, im scared! That night he even found a snake just on the outskirts of the site but he got rid of it thank goodness!
That night we bonded as a group, the boys put the tents up and we cooked, well did a bbq! Then we decided to play lots and lots of drinking games to help with team bonding. At 10 the lights went off and we were kicked out of the campsite to continue our drinking on the beach. The stars were gorgous, even if I was a little tipsy I enjoyed the most amazing views of the sky. It finally began to sink in that this was a huge sand island, I felt so far away from any where it was brill.
Who knows what time I got into the tent but we were up and about at 7am the next morning, the group had lots to see and do. First stop eli creek where we were told we can float down the creek, it was freeaing but cool, then we looked around the shipwreck and the pinacles (look at photos) before heading upto indian head. At this point I had a turn at driving it was so fun. Indian head was the furthest we could drive in the 4x4, unfortunately there was a patch of dry san that we watched people attempt to get up, a few got stuck, so did we, but we let down the tyre pressure and pushed.
The views from indian head were immense, saw sharks and all sorts, we had been warned the sea was shark infested but it was strange seeing them. I could have stayed up there for ever it was amazing. We then had to walk to the champagne pools, I make it sound like hard work but actually walking in sand in heat sometimes is. The champagne pools were where the sea crashed into some rock pools and you could go for a swim (with no sharks) so team into pool, then team left the pool and led on beach, all team slept for an hour.
That night we treated ourselves to showers at the campsite (cost like $2) then we mafe pasta and again played drinking games. Unfortunatley Amy and Mark came off badly this time and were really drunk. No one was impressed at 6am on the final day when we had to get up and pack everything away.
The final day was again a full day, again seeing things that are difficult to explain how amazing and beautiful they were. A 2 hour walk took as to a lake that will soon be swallowed by sand, we visited to a lake with the whitest sand I have ever seen, saw white that it wasn't hot and it cleaned jewlery. Unfortunately I was feeling ill the last day, I have a bad cold (in this heat!) but I still loved it.
