Today Michael and I braved the outside world and hailed a taxi to head to town. It was quite an experience. We walked past many different shops, some that resembled western stores and then there were some that looked plain dodgy. We walked past food stalls that smelled divine (nothing like the smell of fresh bread) and then we walked down an alley that sent us to the local food market. We walked through and we had an Indian man and woman find us, separate us and try to sell us jewelry, a pretty smart tactic if you ask me, divide and conquer. I think they were desperate as it was late in the afternoon and apparently they hadn't made a sale. We left there with a necklace and a bracelet for a bargain price. We then decided to go home and so found a man on the side of the road who took us in his van full of strange men (and one old Indian lady) back to the other side of the island. If it wasn't for that lady who hopped in at the last minute i think i may have jumped out and paid the extra to get a taxi home because getting into a van that looked the way it did with the men that were in it was not what I would usually do. I'm not going to lie, I was praying the hole way home. :-) but we made it home safe and sound and are now relaxing in out room listening to the sound of the rain hitting the roof... pure relaxation.
