Em Goes Exploring
San Francisco
Day of Arrival
What a journey. To date, transfer from country to country has been as sleek as a cats tail. Travelling to San Francicso was just not that easy!
To start my flight from Nadi to LA was delayed by two hours. This left me 1 and half hours to get my connecting flight to San Francisco. It took just over an hour to get through immigration, which included a photograph, finger prints and lots of questions. When trying to locate my luggage, I was told by a security guard that the flight number on my ticket was wrong and I would not be able to get my luggage. Thank goodness Kirtsy found it! We raced through customs, to find that my connecting flight was delayed so I may be able to hop on. Yep, only if I run to the gate. I lost Kirsty at this point.
At the gate, American Airlines had virtually sold my seat on as I was late - I only just got it back! 1 hours flight and I had landed in San Francisco as the sun went down - beautiful. The cold and fresh air first hit me - back in the Northern Hemisphere; it felt nice. The airport shuttle took me across town to the hostel and I liked what I saw. Tall and beautiful old town houses, built on steep slopes. I was excited about what I would see over the next few days.
My Holiday in San Francisco
The hostel in San Francisco was just two blocks away from Union Square - where the shops are!! Horrah! I spent 9 hours of my first day in San Francisco perusing the shops, only to have only seen half of them. San Francisco rocks!
On the second day of my stay, I walked to Fishermans Wharf. From there I could see the Golden Gate Bridge and the beautiful bay of San Francisco. The wind was blowing and the sun was shining, perfect. As recommended, I sat down to enjoy a seafood chowder, a must-have at the wharf. I drank a very good glass of Sauvignon Blanc and listened to live music. Very nice!
That brings me to my third day in San Francisco, which is today. I gave my feet a rest and just took a stroll into town to induldge in a piece of cheesecake from the Cheesecake factory and sipped on a strawberry cocktail. I still think that Mum's cheesecake is far superior!
I will update you with more tales of San Francisco as they come.
For now, I am very excited to be flying home on Sunday and looking forward to seeing you all very soon.
I have not put photos onto the website and this computer will not let me. I will endeavour to do so, but for now I have updated the site with journals from North Island (Part 2), Fiji and of course San Francisco.
Lots of Love, Em x
