Emma's Smiley Travels
Hi all,
Sorry for the lack of communication, internet has been a bit thin on the ground so you are getting a bulk update. There is nowhere to upload photos at a decent speed so will do this when i am back in a few weeks:)
So quick update, we went to Puno for one night on Wed, which i have to say is a bit of a dive of a place not somewhere you want to hang around. We just stopped off on route to the border of Boliva.
The next day we drove through the Peru exit border (strange i never been through a land border before) another stamp on my passport!! (though may start to run out of space). Oh did i mention they give you a stamp in your passport at Machu Pichu (very touristy but shows i've been:)
Anyway then on to the Bolivian entry border which was a bit scary with all the armed guards but that is a bit of a trend in Bolivia. All went through ok and we arrived in Copacabana:)
Which is a lovely little seaside type place. On the Friday we headed off on a boat to the Island of the Sun, which wsa an eventful day. Firstly the boat took over 2 hrs 30mins (should be 1hr45) and everyone was dying for the loo when we got off, so it was another half an hour before we were ready to set off on our walk across to the other side of the island where the boat was due to pick us up in 4hrs.
It is probably worth pointing out at this point we didn't have a map, and were not entirely sure we were going in the right diection. Although we were following the coast so had lovely sea views. After about an hour of walking and we had started going uphill inland, i did start to joke that this was in fact a reality TV show, and in fact we were secretly being film. (i mean it does sound like it doesn't it, 15 tourists dropped on an island without a map, having to get to the other port in 4 hrs before the boat leaves:)
You'll be happy to know we made it back in time, (or were you looking forward to a Robin Staint Crouso type marooned story??) but didn't take the right route and missed alot of the ruins, but to be honest having seen lots in Peru, we were a bit ruined out.
So a bit of stick was give to the leaders when we got back, as they hadn't done the trip before they didn't know about the different routes.
Saturday we arrive in La Paz, which can only really be describe as quite mad. It is in a basin and sprawls out over the edge, it is the highest capital city at over 4,000 metre above sea level.
In the afternoon we did a city tour which was interesting, if not a bit off putting when within 15mins the guide had told us abou 50 people being massacred in 2003 after protests and again in May 2005!!
On Sunday night we had a lovely group meal with great view of the city. A few of us went to a club in La Paz, didn't end up getting back until 730am it was great club though
The good news is we had a free day on Monday so was able to catch up on sleep.
More updates on Boliva to come!!
Hope your all well, luv Em:)
