This week we have been mostly skiing the Argentinean slopes of Catedral, near Bariloche.Conditions have been mixed with both great snow and sunshine, and miserable fog and even rain when the air temperature reached relatively balmy conditions on the last day.Rather than go to the trouble of employing controlled explosions to address the avalanche risk, the Argentineans have valiantly opted to close lifts... all over the place... and then randomly and frustratingly comprehensively even after the avalanche risk was clearly no longer present. When the lifts did work, I was able to push Em into a number of challenging new "situations", however, this holiday I have not been able to make her cry- we do have another skiing session in Japan coming up so fingers crossed. One black run did prove more amusing / distressing than others [depends whether you're me or Emma], involving Em losing a ski... the ski was actually completely out of sight following a tumble of respectable length.Naturally it was down to me to find the ski, with Em offering helpful advice including "It's under the snow somewhere".
A new experience for us both was driving a snowmobile up a mountain to have dinner in a tiny, isolated hut with panoramic views of the mountains and lakes. Here we gorged ourselves on cheese fondue and unlimited wine, before indulging in a decadent dessert of chocolate fondue.Em actually reached her cheese limit that night, meaning she was unable to have her turn at driving the snowmobile.Given the amount of wine she washed the cheese down with, the loss was probably for the better...Interestingly, the smell of the snowmobile engines very much reminded me of the chainsaw engines of my childhood... why my childhood featured running chainsaws is probably a matter for social services.
Tomorrow we head south to explore the glaciers of southern Argentina. All the best from us both,
Chris and Em

Selina Heavens, posted a msg on your board before I saw this - great descriptions - but what's this "haven't made Emma cry yet" bit?!! That shouldn't be on your agenda!! Loved the bit about chain saws and social services - think we were lucky that the latter didn't know about the former! Himself is at a CBS so all is quiet on the home front, which is currently littered with various tools of the various unfinished jobs - even the help, Romanian Toni has noticed his penchant for starting things but but never finishing them - hmm, think I need to escape...any room for a little one?!! Keep safe and keep writing. Lots of love xx
Ayla mwah ha ha "it's under the snow somewhere"!! That's why I love you Em, just for those kinda comments right there! And Chris, re the too much wine that Em consumed, was she at the stage where lips were red, hair was getting frizzier by the minute, eyes slightly glassy and a manic smile on her face for at least an hour without break? If so, I'm soooo pleased she wasn't behind the wheel of the snowmobile!!! Sounds like you're having the best time, so lovely to chat on skype - can't wait to hear about the glaciers! Miss ya xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Jenna christo you hairy beast!!!! hairy hairy beast! you look so funny. glad you are having fun. chainsaws shaped us, along with heavy things, spinning sharp wheel things, and het hem..the electrocuter. xx
