Antalya in a nutshell for us was indulging in more delicious food and bizarre shopping. From Cappadocia we got an overnight bus to Antalya. I will probably never do an overnight bus again! I didn't sleep a wink and it was very uncomfortable. We arrived in Antalya at 5:30am and caught a cab to our pension. We slept out in the common area until we were woken by people cleaning the courtyard. We then filled up on a yummy breakfast - lots of fruit and the general olives, cucumber, feta & tomatoes. We found ourselves hungry a couple of hours later so went in search for the perfect place for a seafood lunch. We climbed a lot of stairs and found ourselves the perfect restaurant on a cliff where we sat, staring out into the turquoise ocean with snow capped mountains, sipping on fresh orange juice and eating a whole fish. We stayed there for a couple of hours then set out to do some trinket shopping!
In the evening we sat next to the old city walls in a castle and had a rosè and watched the sun set. On our last day in Antalya we hit the shops... Rugs, sunglasses, watches, jewellery, trinkets.. Etc! Before we went shopping I had bought some nuts from a street cart and the man ha warned me about going shopping after eating the nuts.... I thought there was a translation problem however now I am blaming the nuts for the huge amount of money spent! Our last stop was a carpet/rug / kilim / patchwork store... I will never forget looking at Elyse and just laughing at ourselves with all of the shopping (and blaming the crazy nuts). We sent a package back to Australia from the carpet shop. All up it was a box that weighed around 20kg! We spent a couple of hours in the last carpet shop, relaxing in the showroom, sipping on apple tea whilst Mahmet showed us thousands of dollars worth of carpets. We thought we owned the place but in retrospect we walked out having bought lots of rugs and having spent our monthly budget. Elyse's sister, Melanie had told us that she regretted not getting a Turkish rug whilst she was in Turkey... That was just the permission we needed to splash out. When Brendon receives our package he will soon realise he will need to build me a big house!
One week in and we had gained 20kg of luggage and approximately 10kg body weight. Every little bit has been worth it :)
