Cape Town, South Africa
So, this is our last day in Cape Town and I'm just starting my blog! Go me!
Tomorrow we move onto a beach town called Mossel Bay, but I'll tell you about that when we get there
I'll only tell you about key events in this blog as I'm not the blogging type, and to be honest I really can't be bothered right now
We arrived in Cape Town last Tuseday (6th April).
On Wednesday we spent the day looking for a new camera for Amy, and finally found a decent one on Thursday morning. The whole camera situation has been crazy cos she had it stolen in Windhoek the day before we left for Etosha, and a few days ago we got an email from the guy that runs the hostel in Windhoek saying that they'd found it - turns out the new security guard was suspected to have stolen someone else's camera, and when they searched his house his wife confessed to having another one too which turned out to be Amy's! So Chad (the owner) has kindly sent it to Cape Town via some nice French guy who we met there and she got it back today! So now she whas 2 cameras!
So back to last week...on Thursday we slowly found our way to the V&A Waterfront in CT, planning on going to Robben Island where Mandela, amongst other political prisoners, were held, but it had sold out until Tuesday. That's why we're still in CT (we were supposed to leave on Monday) cos we really wanted to do the trip.
Friday we went on a wine tour through Stellenbosch, Paarl and Frencshoek and had a wicked time! We were taught how to taste wine properly and spent the whole day drinking wine and champagne (or cup de classique, as it's not from the Champagne region...check me out, see how much I learnt, wine wizz kid). We also had a cheese tasting session and bought some fancy chocolate to go with some of the wine. The best one we tried was easily a red wine called Cape Jazz Shiraz - I was going to buy some to bring home but didn't want to lug it around with me, and I didn't really want to send it home either...sorry!
On Saturday we only really managed Table Mountain, and even that was by cable car. We wanted to walk up but didn't have time, and we were warned against walking down cos people always get lost and fall. The views over the Cape were awesome! I got loads of photos and even a couple for the boys - you get a good view of the new stadium!
On Sunday we went on a Cape Peninsula tour, although I'm ashamed to say I had an epic hangover and threw up plenty, although after a bike ride and lunch I felt much better!
On Monday we went shark cage diving! Apart from skydiving, it was the best money I've ever spent I think! Although again, I was extremely sea sick which absolutely sucked! The only time I really paid any attention was when I had to get into the cage...the rest of the time I was sat with my head in my hands :(
(OK it's now Wednesday as I'm writing) Yesterday we went back to the Waterfront and got the boat to Robben Island where we had a tour of the houses, village and prison. Our guide in the prison was an ex-con which was pretty cool...he served 7 years and was released in 1990. Amy and I both took the oppertunity to get a photo with him He had the funniest voice, but it got quite annoying after a while cos he kept repeating the same words over and over like "ex political prisoner" in a very heavy African accent.
We made the most of our last night in Cape Town yesterday by staying up all night chatting with a cool bunch of people...watching Mastermind on TV getting shots for every correct answer (which didn't happen often!) although I did actually get one right about a samosa!
This morning we got on the Baz Bus and after 7 hours we arrived here in Mossel Bay. We're staying on a converted train right on the beach, and hopefully will be doing some sunbathing tomorrow, although Amy's just seen a weather report and it doesn't look good.
That's all for now folks! Internet is expensive out of Cape Town! xxx
