My second time back on HK after almost 15 years! Feels just like the first time.. Exploring the place like a solo traveller treading on paths untrodden and sights unseen. I thought it would just be a big city like any other.. But I was wrong. HK has it's own character, a mix of the old and the new (buildings), western meets oriental and luxury meets budget.
Am staying with my lovely hosts, Adrian, Ivy and their newborn Peanut! Had a good time catching up with old friends and talking about life after marriage and kids.. Oh how life has changed! They gave me a list of things to do and food to eat and so my journey began...
The egg tarts from Tai Cheong Bakery at Central (Lyndhurst) are simply the egg tarts I've ever eaten in my life. The custard is so smooth and soft it just melts in your mouth. Even for a non-foodie like me it was unforgettable.
The wanton mee at Tsim Chai was alright.. They have huge fillings of wanton and they were nice.. But nothing special.
Then i went shopping at causeway bay! Where I met superheroes and young good looking people dressed in balloon outfits, warriors, models and the list goes on.. Well, they are all marketing stunts but it just makes the streets so lively and full of character. Bustling is the word.
Also met up with Nimit and Angela for dinner at the food centre at Northpoint. Unassuming, almost dirty looking place where I didn't expect the food to turn to be pretty good! Lots of old HK uncles chatting and drinking beer with their buddies talking about life and it's toils.
That sums up my first (half) day in HK. :) let's see what tomorrow would bring..
