Quick update from the Great Barrier Reef! Just enjoyed an amazing day out on the reef sailing! The sailing boat was fantastic and moored at an exclusive part of the reef to the company - so we had it all to ourselves! It was os beautiful, vivid purples and electric blues, although some of it was dying which was sad. We saw some amazing fish - giant trevallys (they are HUGE), lots of nemos, swordfish, sea cucumbers, sea-snakes - all incredible. The highlight were the reef sharks swimming around our boat. Me and Sean got in and swam with them and one even brushed our feet - slightly scary but they are beautiful and friendly creatures. If Australia has taught us one thing, it is that sharks are seriously misunderstood creatures - well most of them anyway!
We also sailed over to Green Island which was nice and relaxing and had lots of lovely treats - free lunch, snacks, even a glass of wine although Emily was too busy being ill to enjoy them! It was truly a day in paradise, an experience of a lifetime, however it quickly turned into torture on the journey home! There was huge southerly swell, mixed with mad northerly winds, which made for a pretty choppy 3 hours sail back. When the sails were dropped and the engine stopped, Emily's stomach decided to empty its contents into the ocean to help feed the fish! Provided much entertainment to the crew and people on board, much to Em's embarassment! Still - a small price to pay for a day out on the Great Barrier Reef!
Hope everyone is well back home- we are off to experience Cape Tribulatopn, Port Douglas and all its surrounds next so speak to you all soon! xx
