Queenstown
From Franz Josef, Matt and I headed with Emily and Zoe to Queenstown. It was a really long day on the bus so we didn't arrive in Queenstown until about 4ish. Queenstown is the party capital of New Zealand so what better time to head out for a few drinks. This was Emily's 1st experience of Jagerbombs (Jagermeister and Redbull)…yummy!
The next day we had all booked ourselves up to do River Surfing… probably not the best plan on a bit of a hangover. The idea is to get a body board and throw yourself into the rapids along the river. This is fine if you don't loose you board and then get sucked under for 20s, which is what happened to Emily on 2 out of 3 rapids! She hated it SO SO much but Matt really enjoyed it. Your meant to go down the river twice but Emily opted for the once, watching from the top of the valley and taking photos as the rest of the group went past. The other Emily didn't like it either, so it was the 2 Emily's at the top! The best bit was definitely the free t-shirt and pizza at the end!
We all had a far more chilled time on the day trip to Milford Sound. We got a coach there and then a boat trip around Milford Sound itself. It was beautiful scenery with waterfalls and mountains all around you. At one point the boat went right into the waterfall… you could feel the spray from it everywhere! There were dolphins following the boat and seals on the coastal rocks. It was stunning…exactly what you imagine the scenery to look like in New Zealand.
We went our separate ways with Emily and Zoe after this as we had one night longer than them in Queenstown before heading to Dunedin.
Dunedin
We only stayed in Dunedin for 1 night, but managed to fit in a trip to the Cadbury Factory…Emily would not have left without going here! They have SO many more flavours of Cadbury's chocolate here in New Zealand… the best ones are Coconut Rough and Three Wishes (layers of dark, white and milk chocolate together)…yum!
LakeTekapo
The next day we headed to Lake Tekapo, where again we stayed for 1 night. The town here was very small, but had an idyllic location by the lake. Our hostel for the night was right on the lake so we went for a swim. Matt went right in but Emily just went up to her knees then bottled out…it was SO cold! The weather was quite hot though so we chilled out by the shore for the rest of the afternoon. Our Magic bus driver, Ryan, organised an all you can eat BBQ for dinner with him as chef, so that was a treat!
Next stop Christchurch on 19th March 08.
