Em and Mark's Adventures
New Orleans. Jazz capitol of the world! Expected a whole lot and got the most. Although NO has been hit hard by the hurricanes, there's a will to push on. It's a shame to see the once beautiful city deserted by the vast majority. The Downtown area wasn't that effected by the disastor, but more by the complete lack of people. If you want to find them all - Bourbon Street is definately the place to go! Live music in almost every bar, a good mix of people, cheap drinks and a gud atmosphere - It has it all. Its so different away from the street , there are alot of crazy people, who start drinkin at 10in the mornin, and the streets are really dirty. Some of them crazy people happend to be staying in our hostel, and took a real shine to us,they wouldnt leave us alone!! We had the good fortune of beeing there on a wednesday, where they have a small fundraiser in the middle of the city. Beers, music, food and people in a good spirit. having missed out on Mardi Gras, the next best thing is Mardi Gras World. The place where they build the actual floats for the parades - magical place. Also happening at the time of our stay was a PGA Tour. We caugth the bus to English Turn, just outside the city and what a difference. Everything seemed to be in perfect order. It turned out to be quite a good day. Next thing is a 54 hours train ride to San Diego.....
