The night before we left Koh Tao, we headed to a reggae bar, watched kids playing with fireworks (no Heath and Safety police over here!) and had a few beers. We got chatting to a Australian guy called Sam, who was a bit of a firework geek. He headed to the nearest shop and bought a number of super sized fireworks. We chipped in and it ended up in a party which lasted til after midnight. I bet the locals loved us!
We left Koh Tao 3 days ago and took a not so bumpy boat ride to Koh Samui. We made the decision to stay in the main resort, Chewang Beach. This turned out not to be the best move to date!
Where we stayed was on the main strip, just round the corner from the go-go bars! Our first night entailed a beer in a reggae bar, dumbfounded by the smell (a delightful rotten egg and fish combo) and the number of youngsters.
The following day, we took a pick-up truck to the southern point on the island to look at the geological wonders, shaped like lady and fella bits. They were pretty vile! If you want to see them, go to google pictures and type in Grandmother and Grandfather rock, Samui.
That night, we had a few of the local brews (Chang), and watched events unfold on the strip. It was amazing to see that at 8pm, we were the only ones in the bars, and by 11pm, there were hoards of ravers and the old fellas were out on the scope. We had some noodles and turned in!!
The next day, we took yet another boat to Donsak, and then a bus to Krabi, which is where we currently are. Last night, we had an awesome meal (another Noodle fest) and more Chang for 2.50 quid. Bargain.
Tomorrow we are heading for Hong Island for a snorkel trip, the following day, Phi-Phi for an overnight stay, which will probably involve more Chang.
We then fly to Bangkok and onwards to Australia, which will be our next update.
Hope all is well in En-ger-land.
Em & Graeme.
