Ok, we've said we've had early mornings before, but this one really took the ticket. 3.50am, that's right, we were awakened pretty much in the middle of the night to have breakfast and pack our thing so we could see the sunrise by Uluru, and as Logan put it "The sun waits for no one". We got there in plenty of time, and got to see the rock slowly light up.
The group was doing the base walk today. A 10km walk around the base of Uluru, and near the end of the walk, our guide was going to join us for the last part and talk about the aboriginal clan that used to live by the rock and who now are in charge of the national park and how it's run. A truly interesting walk, there were some parts of the rock we weren't allowed to photograph because they were especially sacred to the ananu people. The whole experience was great. After the walk, we went back to the sunset lookout to get a picture of Uluru in the sunlight.
When we'd had our lunch of burritos, we drove toward our next camp site near Kings Canyon. We stopped at a lookout over Mt. Connor and by a resort so we could have a swim in the pool. After dinner, Krista decided she was gonna sleep in a swag tonight after all. A swag is like a large canvas sleeping bag with a mattress in it. You just place it somewhere on the ground and you and your sleeping bag get inside and sleep under the stars. It was very peaceful and cosy. Emelie was a bit scared of the wild animals and insects, so she slept in one of the tents instead.
