Dad has a job working in Austin now so I decided to take the 4 hour road trip with him to see a new city. Highlights were (again, in no particular order):
- Pru joining us for a couple of days and giving me a guided tour of the city and surrounding countryside. I now know where Sandra Bullock lives!
- Taking the bus downtown to see the Capitol Building (pictured). The bus was really cheap, only costing $1 each way, and the Capitol Building is very impressive. It stands at 308 ft tall and is made of pink granite. There were soldiers recruiting near the Capitol Building and women protesting for peace just outside the grounds, which was interesting to see.
- Littlefield Fountain - this an impressive fountain that sits on the grounds of the University of Texas at Austin. The grounds themselves are a nice place to walk around if you get the chance, housing many sculptures and statues.
- Thai food and quality time with Dad. The gaps between seeing my Dad are far too long :(
A couple of things that weren't so great:
- Austin is covered in crickets! At the McDonalds drive through they were all over the wall. I've never seen anything like it! On a couple of occasions one of the little devils hopped into my room to die... sad times.
- So it turns out that Austin is hot. Who knew, right? Anyways, my ingenious plan of drinking loads of water, wearing a hat and popping in doors as much as possible turned out not the be as fool proof as I'd thought. At one point while wandering around Austin I started to feel a but unwell. Luckily I found a FroYo shop to cool down in (mint choc chip FroYo and Raspberries is a winning combo btw, try it). Even with a bit of a rest, I knew I'd stayed in the sun too long. I wasn't wrong. Later that evening I got a massive headache and proceeded to vom outside Dad's hotel room. You're welcome! Eeesh...
