Day 50 (Friday 25th Jan 08)
Up early to make sure everything is in our bags, get them on our bags and ready to go. Say bye to Roger and check out and then start walking for a bit until we find a Tuk Tuk. Found a Tuk Tuk and he dropped us at the airport. Again had to pay excess baggage for our bags as the allowance is only 15KGs. Went through security and hoped we would be able to find something to eat, not much luck only pot noodles so had to go with that as we were hungry. After being delayed for a while finally got on the plan and arrived in Bangkok. Got one of the airport buses and got dropped off near Khao San road, put our bags on our backs and went off in search of somewhere to stay. It wasn't as easy as we thought it would be but eventually found somewhere. Not very nice and twice what we were paying to Chiang Mai but it would have to do. Went for a look around and found a Sheesha cafe so Mark very happy! Back to the guest house and had a very noisy night!
Day 51 (Saturday 26th Jan 08)
Got up early and went to have our breakfast that was included with the room. Then went for a walk around to see if we could find anywhere nicer and cheaper to stay. Didn't have much luck and decided to go back and book for another2 nights until we found something better. Went to McDonalds as Mark was craving a burger! Went for a walk around to see some of the sights and a "nice" stranger stopped to suggest some places we should go and said that it was B10 for us to use the Tuk Tuks today as the government was sponsoring it today and something about tax free week and it being the last day today. Stupidly we believed him but we won't be making that mistake again! Went round a few of the sights seeing some of the Buddhas and stopped at a taliors. Got talked into ordering suits. Went round some few more sights and then got taken to some gem shops - getting suspicious at this point! Start to realise we have been scammed! Went to internet cafe to use Skype. Walking back along Khao San road and bump into Tony! Really strange - had met him in Chiang Mai and didn't realise he was going to Bangkok. He said there were some nice places near the river to stay that were cheap so decided we would go and have a look tomorrow.
Day 52 (Sunday 27th Jan 08)
Up early again and went for breakfast. Decided today we would go and check out where the Vietnam embassy was and see how we could get there by bus. Found out which bus should drop us quite near and went and caught it. Got dropped near Lumphin Park and had to walk for ages in the boling hot heat until we eventually found the embassy. At least we knew where it was now and the opening times. Also had a look to see if there was anywhere cheap to stay nearby but with no luck. Started walking back towards where we could catch the bus again and maybe have a look around Siam Square on the way and Em's flip flop broke! Not good, ages away from any shops selling flip flops and we didn't want to pay for a taxi. Knew the cheapest place to get flip flops was back at Khao San road so carried on walking very slowly back to the bus stop. Very long slow walk!! Got on the bus but on the wrong side of the road, thought it would be ok and that we would eventually end up in the right place but ended up that the bus stopped out in the middle of nowhere! Really hot and Em not able to walk very well and finished all our water! Eventually gave in and decided to get a taxi back to Khao San road. Luckily wasn't very expensive. Bought some flip flops finally. Then went off towards the river to look for where Tony had been talking about. After a while of walking round and getting lost found a really nice guest house. Half the price and way cleaner so decidedto move there tomorrow and headed back to Khao San road for another noisy night.
Day 53 (Monday 28th Jan 08)
Had our breakfast and got our bags on our backs ready for a long walk to the other guest house. Checked in and then bought a bus map and headed back to the Vietnam embassy by bus. Another long hot journey and had to walk quite a way again. Finally got there and then realised we didn't have a pen which was a bit of a mistake! Managed to borrow one and paid the extra to get the visas done in 2 days so we didn't have to be without our passports for long. Walked to Siam Square as we hadn't got there the day before and went to Dunkin Donut! Walked round the shops but they were too tempting and nice so got the bus back to guest house. Went out later for something to eat.
Day 54 (Tuesday 29th Jan 08)
Up early again. Had something to eat at the guest house and then chilled out and read our books for a while as it was too early to leave to go and get our visas. Left for the embassy (3days running!) got the bus and walked again. Picked up our passports and visas then headed back to the bus, got dropped off and found a nice cheap place for something to eat. Walked back to the guest house via the shop. Another hot sweaty day!
Day 55 (Wednesday 30th Jan 08)
More of a chill out day today. Had something cheap to eat at the guest house and then took our washing to a place nearby to leave and go back tomorrow to hope that it is there for us to pick up! Walked back to Khao San road and had a walk around. Went to the internet cafe to upload our pictures and reply to emails. Mark reading his book!! he he he! Went for another Sheesha and a beer. Got something to eat from the sidestalls and headed back to the guest house.
Day 56 (Thursday 31st Jan 08)
Again more of a chill out day. Tough here in the heat with the pollution! Had something to eat at the guest house and stayed on the internet here updating blog and looking into flights. Went up to Khao San road to the to get a few things and went to try and sell our books and get some more. One guy offered us B200 for the whole lot which we knew he was taking the mickey so moved on quick to another place, eventually got about B500. Bought some more books and something to eat then went back to the guest house. Packed our bags and tried to plan a bit what to do in Vietnam.
