Glasgow, UK
We arrived in Glasgow yesterday via airplane. The plane rides were fun. It was nice to have a short flight from Charleston to Detroit to get us prepared for the flight to Amsterdam. I actually really like flying. =)
Today, we got on a bus and headed to Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It was amazing! Our first concert was today at St. Giles Cathedral. St. Giles is the patron saint of Edinburgh, and history says that he was wounded trying to save a deer and later died from the wound. Surprisingly, St. Giles is a Presbyterian church, not a Catholic church. But it was gorgeous nonetheless. There is a chapel in the cathedral, Thistle Chapel, designated for the use of the Queen of England and her guests ONLY.
After our concert, we headed to Edinburgh Castle. The Castle is over 3,000 years old and was home to the kings and queens of Scotland. One in particular was Mary, Queen of Scots, and she gave birth to her son James VI (who became James I of England) in the palace inside the Castle. Inside the Castle was St. Margaret's Chapel which is one of the oldest buildings in Scotland. The chapel is very small and was built for Queen Margaret, who was a very devout Christian.
We headed back to our hotel after our tour of Edinburgh Castle. Then, I went out to eat with Laura, Jamie, Hayley, Becky, Heather, and Z. We decided to eat at a local pub where I had some lasagna and the best dessert EVER: Oreo Chocolate Brownie Cake! Afterwards, Laura, Jamie, Z, and I spent some time in town just hanging out. Good first day! =)
