first full day in Bankok!
Bang Rak, Thailand
today i had breakfast with a girl and a boy from Belgium. They are going on an 11 month world trip. We talked and decided to go together to a temple. I waited in the lobby while they went to the reception to order a trekking trip up to Chiang mai. While I waited for them I met another girl from holland. We started talking and before I knew it she was going with us to the temple. We all walked to the pier where the boat went from, but of course today its not running because of something happening at the royal palace. Then we had to walk all the way back and try and find a taxi to take us there. five taxis stopped for us but none wanted to run by the meter and they were all giving ridiculous prices ( not of course compared to Norway). its a big contrast from home where prices are fixed. Here they come to you, and give different offers and you have to bargain the price down to get the real price.
we got hungry and started to look for someplace to eat on the streets where local people where sitting. this is the number one rule here, never eat at a stall without local people there eating. We walked around looking but couldent find a place, In the end we walked into a little side street with a little local grocery store and a simple restaurant. It looked like a place where you could get decent homemade thai cooking so we sat down. The adventure grew when the woman didnt speak any english and she had to call her daugher to translate the menu for us. After we ordered she started making the food at her little table in front of us. There was a lot of thin scrawny cats begging for food, kids in the doorways and people going in and out of the grocery store.
The fried rice with chicken was delicious!, then peter, berlice and me went to chinatown and what an experience it was. Its like no other china town Ive been to with a mace of different alleys, streets and shops with all different things and the most delicious fruits and food. I tasted fresh pomegrenade juice and it was great!
