Ok, so to catch up a bit here.
Friday we drove from Jasper to Lake Louise via the Icefields Parkway. It was a pretty spectacular drive, right thru the heart of the Rockies. We saw all kinds of weather, from light snow in Jasper, to sunshine along the way, to a few patches of rain, to heavy snowfall. It was awesome, and truly goes to show how the weather can change so fast up here in the mountains!
Along this scencie drive we stopped at Athabasca Falls, which were pretty powerful and beautiful, and we followed the Athabasca river for quite awhile. We saw the Stutfield Glacier, and then stopped at the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Glacier. It was freezing, but awesome. We opted not to take a 4WD Bus out onto the actual glacier - it was cold enough just standing near the ice!
We saw the weeping wall, where water from the snowy peaks trickles thru the limestone rocks and out to the surface of the wall.
We stopped to do a short walk to Bow Summit & Peyto Lake, but the track was completely snowed in, so we had to miss this one.
We stopped at Bow Lake, which was totally frozen over, but looked pretty spectacular anyways.
Along the way, we saw more deer, Elk & a Grizzly Bear and her cubs eating buffalo berries on the side of the road!!
