We flew from Delhi to Phnom Penh seperatly again due to airline rules where we met in the lake guesthouse. It was a real relief to arrive into a place that had other travellers there as after India we were starting to feel slightly singled out.
We spent the first day there seeing some sights like the killing fields which is a horrible place. Skulls and other random bones everywhere and loads of teeth too. Just lying around for people to touch and see. Yuk. It was very eery and we both felt quite depressed leaving there after learning about brutal deaths and seeing the cages where people were kept whilst waiting to be killed. There were so many killings they couldnt keep up with the actual killing of them so had to put them in waiting cages.
We saw loads of amazing temples and just spent a lot of time tuk tuking around the town to take in cambodian life. We booked a bus for the next morning to Siem Reap which we missed because we got so drunk and slept through the alarm. So we caught a later bus and managed to get some english dvds off the only 3 tourists onboard and put them on. Slightly unfair seeings as 95% of the bus didnt actually understand english. Oh well.
In Siem Reap we headed straight to the Angor Wat temples which were fantastic. So much work was done there. Mainly by the elephants by the sounds of things as they carried all the stones. We spent half the day going between temples...including the Tomb Raider one which was really spooky and then went back into the town to shop at the markets which had such nice stuff so cheaply. Went out that night with people who got us so drunk from Phnom Penh but they didnt do as good a job this time as the next morning we got onto our bus to Vietnam.
Met 5 lovely aussies onboard the journey which made it a nicer one. Went all together to a guesthouse in Saigon then out for dinner and to Go Go's. A nightclub playing some decent music for a change so we stayed there all night. Spent the next day shopping and recovering and then caught an afternoon flight to Nha trang and went straight to the beach. It was about 35 degrees and we just passed out in the shade for most of the day appreciating being out of the big cities.
We then went up to Hoi An, a really lovely french colonial town where we spent far too much money on tailors making our silk clothes for us. it was soooo cheap though so we had to really. Stayed at a really nice hotel near to a virtually deserted beach and had a couple of lovely days. We took another flight to Hanoi, the capitol, which I didnt like at all and booked straight onto a tour around Halong Bay, a beautiful world heritage site. The weather was a bit overcast but that was ok as it made it easier to lounge on the decks. We climbed through caves and took kayaks out around the limestone rocks and caves. It was really stunning and so quite there. We then got dropped at Cat Ba island for some more beaching and finally back to Hanoi.
We flew to Bangkok a couple of days ago and love it here. Things are just much easier. Daisy goes home in a few days and then Dawn is on her way. Hope you are all well, lotsa love.x
