My arrival in Rio marked the end of my tour and completion of my 45 day journey from Lima Peru, east all the way to the opposite side of South America. It's a spectacular city but with only 2 days before Argentina I booked myself on a couple of tours to make sure I saw all the main sights. Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf were spectacular and the tour also took in the Cathedral, the district of Santa Teresa and the Lapa steps which is Rio's most famous staircase, the work of an eccentric Chilean artist who has been covering the steps with over 2000 tiles from over 120 countries. I also opted for a favela tour inside Rio's second biggest Favela. It was well worth seeing and fascinating to see the ingenious ways the locals used to plug into the local electricity supplies!
No trip to Rio would be complete without a trip to Copacabana beach to see the itsy bitsy bikinis followed by cocktails and dinner at the Copacabana Palace Hotel. A perfect way to celebrate my last night in Brazil.
