San PedroWe eventually found a 6 bed dorm in San Pedro, which was very much like a cave but very cool inside -much needed in this desert heat. San Pedro itself is very tourist and every second shop is offering some guided tour or other. It is very laid back and bohemian though and I really liked the place. After sorting the hostel out, we all wanted to sort buses out. My original plan was to get a bus to Salta in Argentina and then go to Mendoza for a wine tour and then get to Santiango for Monday for my flight. However, all the buses to Salta the following day were full so I reserved one for Santiago the following day with a connection straight to Mendoza. Bex decided to do the same as me, which was good. That afternoon and the following morning was just spent sorting out accommodation for Fiji and other things such as washing. We had a couple of bottles of wine in the evening and then the next day after saying bye to the others we set off on our 20 hour bus to Santiago. The bus ride went pretty quickly, I spent most of it writing this! We were on time to the minute, which is pretty impressive and meant we got our connection fine to Mendoza. Well I say fine, Bex got stuck in a queue, I'd already put her bag on the coach and I thought I was going on my own with two sets of luggage but she made it with a least a second to spare! The bus ride over the Andes was spectacular and we had front seats so a great view. They out a film on that I really wanted to watch, got half way through it, stopped at the Argentinian border and then they never put it back on. Also annoying was the fact that we kept having to tip the baggage people whenever they put our bag on the bus or took it off (they had to do this a lot due to customs etc). I would have put it on for free, it's the carrying around that's the hard part!
