Today we are travelling to Valencia and leaving Barcelona (sad times). We got to the main station in Barcelona and because of Renfe - the Spanish equivalent of Trenitalia - we couldn't reserve our seats on the train because it was a Sunday, so we had to pay the full price. We got to the station at 12 and the train was at 5:15 so we had a long wait.
We went into the cafeteria and set up camp for the afternoon. Paul went and got us some food but it was disgusting, cold chipolatas and a slice of olive, mushroom and anchovy pizza. All of my least favourite ingredients! I left mine and he left some of his (this will become relevant).
As we were sat near the doors we noticed a beggar coming in and going round the tables asking for money. Then we saw him taking food off someone's plate that they had left. It was so gross! I get that he's poor, but by the time we left 4 hours later he had had enough to feed a family of 8. At one point he came to our table and picked up the cold sausages with his bare hands and put them in a carrier bag full of other food. I nearly vomited!
We went to get our train and it was comfortable. On Spanish trains they play films like on a plane, and on this journey it was an interesting film about Lionel Messi the footballer. It was good and I understood it all.
We got to Valencia and took the metro to the station nearest our hotel. Our hotel was adjoined to a large shopping centre with a massive Corte Inglés.
We got to our room and it absolutely stank of old faeces. We couldn't even stand in there for longer than a minute. We went to reception and they happily gave us a new room, which smelt 1000000% better than the first.
There was a bar and a terrace on the roof of the hotel so we went up there and had cocktails, which were lovely. Then we ventured into the shopping centre and found an authentic Mexican restaurant where they serve burritos, quesadillas and nachos, cooked right in front of you and how you like it. It was really cheap as well!
